The 23-and-under team will only be for North American players.

Any European players will play for their own nation's team. Guys like Forsberg and Landeskog will play for Sweden. A guy like Girgensons will play for Team Europe (if he's good enough).

The simple fact that there is little griping from the NHL teams or player's side about how this will affect top players missing training camp for their teams, shows how much money the league/owners and the NHLPA is making out of this cash cow disguised as an important international hockey tournament. No concerns about injury or players not having insurance, or teams worrying about disrupted chemistry...as with a lot of things, money makes those supposed "issues" from previous tourneys like the Olympics, disappear.

I saw this on the TSN comments ... If the NA team or Euro team wins.. What anthem is played? Are they bringing in Calvin Harris to do a techno remix of multiple anthems?

Decent NHL lineup, but no way they're competitive with the top teams in the World Cup. Especially with that goaltending if someone doesn't take a huge step forward this year.

I don't think this is very important but if it is necessary there are probably work arounds.
If Europe wins they can play Ode to Joy the EU Anthem. If North America wins then something similar can happen.

Whenever the Unified Team won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games the Olympic hymn was played.

They should just play the Good Ol Hockey Game if the U23 team wins!!

They should just play the Benny Hill theme during the entire tournament.

Decent NHL lineup? That group of forwards would be easily the best forward group in the NHL. They would dominate offensively. The D is well above average as well, probably one of the better D groups in the league. It's only the goaltending that lacks. I think that team contends for a medal in this tourney.

If Russia sends a half KHL roster to this event these kids are going to light them up.

Lotta sticks up bums in this thread.

Never mind watching on TV, I want to go see this live. It's a giant video game.

I hope Hartley coaches the U23 team as well. Crazy amount of talent on that team.

The European anthem is easy, play the Champions League one!

As for you guys poo-pooing the tournament, once the U23s lineup against those Ruskies, you'll be right into it screaming at the television!

I'm surprised that Hammond or Dubnyk are not on that goalie list. Maybe I haven't watched enough Washington games but I wouldn't be picking Holtby.

Are Burns and Vlasic really good enough to be on this team? And Taylor Hall? Is he also good enough, let alone our potential #1 left winger?

TSN confuses me sometimes.

Vlasic is easily a contender for the team. He made the Olympic roster in 2014 and with players like Hamhuis losing their spots and others like Bouwmeester and Pietranglo not playing amazing Vlasic is a fine choice.

Hall was the highest scoring listed left winger 2 seasons ago. A healthy bounce back season of any kind gets him on the team.

Holtby was incredible last year. Hammond has played 24 NHL games.

RoR is really top Canadian talent now? Would rather have Bergeron in that spot, and the 13th forward a guy like Andrew Ladd. I would take Jeff Carter first as well.

Don't like his defense, sort of an old group and too much San Jose. Burns has no business on this team and Vlasic maybe as #7. Where's Pietrangelo?

Who says they have to play any anthems at all? Its their tournament so they get to make the rules.
