I used to use racing Ralph's and Nobby Nics. I've been using Specialized control on the back and a purgatory on the front. Good tires and $55 vs $90. I run them tubeless and can set up with a floor pump.

Any of you warriors still commuting in the smoke?
Made it 1/3 of the way up 14th towards SAIT and I went full asthma. Good thing Shopper's at North Hill knows me and allowed me to prescribe myself a blast of ventolin.

I took it as slow as I could go. On my ride in my throat got sore, and I saw it had gotten worse through the day. I was in no rush, so just crawled home and was fine.

When I bought my bike in 2013 it came with Nobby Nics and I got a lot of good use out of them. From what I've read they have improved the 2015 version and people seem to be really happy with them.
Since the Nobby Nics I've also been running the Specialized Purgatory front, Control back for the last year. They are the "Grid" version, which I believe is the beefier of the three casing types. They have worked out really well. My buddy has used some of the less beefy casing types and wasn't as thrilled with the results. Really it depends on the types of trails you'll be riding most.

A really good value for the money front tire is a Specialized Butcher. I ran one this year on the suggestion of a mechanic at Ridley's and have found it to have massive amounts of grip. I've barely ever washed out my front on it.

Rode the Johnson out by Invermere the other day and it was a lot of fun - highly recommend checking it out! Did the hill at Panorama for a couple days too - some fun runs but I have to say I enjoyed the green run Let it Ride the most of all them - great flow to it.
For the tire discussion I put some Kenda Nevegals 2.35 on before I left and I was really impressed with how they stuck.

I've got a modest commute, maybe 16 K round. I pushed through this week and rode every day, but didn't really notice anything other than a bit of fatigue in the evenings and slightly burning eyes.

Rode bragging rights/merlin today - I found it a tough ride because I had a terrible sleep last night and it felt like I was wrestling my bike all morning. My legs did not feel anywhere near good until I finished Merlin and was back at end of bragging rights.
I like to give a special yo what up to the tool that passed us, I hope he was able to verify a new best time on strava.
We left early this morning and the parking lots was nuts at 10am as we were leaving.
Still can't decide if the race face sixc carbon handle bars I bought are man upgrade or not.
Also changed the ride 9 setting in my Rocky mtn altitude to go from a more slack setup to neutral, bike felt like it handled a little more crisply

He would be my main reason for not being on strava.....passing someone on the trail without saying anything is the sign of being bravo...

Passing without saying anything? Yeah, that's a bit dangerous.
Had a pretty good scare yesterday morning at Merlins. Everyone coming out was warning us of a griz cub and momma wandering around. We blast around the corner on BR and run into a large number of dark brown animals. Turned out to be 6 moo cows, but I pretty much needed some new chamois. Rode southern side today. Looks like they are doing a ton of work off Ranger. Word is that we will see a couple new trails that way towards the end of this season. Can't wait.

^ i beleive that the new trail off of ranger is called snakes and ladders - i am sure i read something about it being 4k - huge props to those guys that take the time to build the trails.
i rode my commuter bike into work this morning, and due to my sons hockey schedule, it may be my last commute of the year.....

Hi all,
I just started cycling this year and am looking to buy a new bike that I would use for years instead of selling it in a year. I have around 2 months of experience, should I get one of those 200$ bikes at Sportchek or would a 600$ to $1000 bike at one of those specialized bikes be better for me.
Thanks

^ if you truly want it to last for years then spend the money.
This is a good time of year to buy as bike shops are looking to start to get rid of 2015 inventory.
