Apparently UEFA is going to rule on it in the morning, and likely rubber stamp it, as both clubs and all players involved, desire it to proceed.

Can't wait to hear Rafa's press conference on this.

seems like the deal really didn't go through. Embarrassing that two of the biggest football clubs in the world have all summer to complete a deal and don't get it done on time on the last day.

Hope De Gea is professional about it. Don't want to see Romero be the number 1 this season ...

At the end of the day though, this sucks for United, what the hell are they going to do with a sulky goaltender? He hasnt exactly been a sterling pro through all of this, he effectively forced this with his:

"Oh, my heart is in Madrid and my mind isnt right and I cant focus on balls coming at me so they might just fly into the net...."

And whats LVG going to do? Sit him with the reserves and run with Romero? That guy....he was not brilliant.

Selling De Gea and getting Navas and Money in exchange was about as sweet of a deal as they could get.

Now all they have is a sulky goaltender and a crappy goaltender.

Why would United game play for not getting anything for De Gea? It seems a lot of people on the interwebs are laughing at Real for this, but it's United who loses here. Real has a goalie, and while people may say "oh, well now he knows he's not their top choice" ... it's Real Madrid. Every player is constantly on their way out from the day they come in at the club. Navas knows where he is.

People coming at it from the angle of "oh well, stick it to Real". Come on. This is Man United here, not West Brom Albion. Hardly David vs Goliath. United was stubborn on their asking price and in the end it cost them. Case closed.

The only reason I can think of for United game-playing would be to have the ability to tell De Gea, 'hey, we tried, you're stuck here for now so you should play and play well.'

And thats a huge gamble.

Could Madrid have planned for this...wasn't a rumor earlier this year that they wanted De Gea to wait a year due to Fifa Fair play and that he can be had on a free transfer.

Make it look like you did all you could to get the deal done, and blame United to satisfy your fans, when really you are more then happy to wait 10 months and sign him on a free transfer.

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is "massive gamble" for Louis van Gaal, according to Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry.

Despite being dubbed "the next Henry" by some pundits, the real Henry wasn't as positive about his chances.

"Martial has pace, can he score a lot of goals?" he said. "I actually don't know because he's only played 52 games.

Is it going to take him a bit of time to adjust and understand what the job requires? Yes, because he only played 52 professional games. It [the fee] is mind-blowing."
http://www.espnfc.com/manchester-uni...-thierry-henry

I didnt realize that he'd had so few matches under his belt to warrant his £36M fee.

As for the De Gea saga, I dont know, I think RM honestly wanted him immediately and really, for them the money is no real object.

And apparently the asking price for Marco Reus was £60M.

I don't see where United played a game here. De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and United have every right to demand a fair price, especially since it's Real Madrid. Until yesterday, they weren't ready to offer a price that was acceptable to United. According to Balague, they hoped that United would get desperate towards the end of the windows and lower the price. That didn't happen, because United have always been adamant that they are happy to run down De Geas contract - they simply don't need the money and have no interest in strengthening Real without getting paid.

On Marcas website, they had a poll online yesterday asking Real fans if they were happy with them buying De Gea and letting Navas leave. 87 percent were unhappy because Navas was apparently outstanding recently and De Gea still would have cost them a good chunk of money. An hour later, the deal falls apart. Go figure.

well, in the least if de Gea wants to play euros, he has to perform for whichever club he's with.

I hope anyway.

Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The Club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.

• Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell. • No offer was received for David until yesterday.

• At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other.

• In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

• Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 2042 BST. David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 2232 BST.

• At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk. • Only at 2255 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

• At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

• At 2258 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

• It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)
- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline

• The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

The only thing missing from that statement is a big "##### YOU PEREZ" at the bottom. I hope they never deal with Real again.

the rumor was they told him if he didnt come this year and came for a free next year they would give him a bumper payment of 10m Euros

the only reason I can concievely think why United would do this on purpose is that it is expected Madrid get the same transfer ban that Barca have right now (basically a registration ban), depending on when Madrid get it, they will most likely appeal it so they have another transfer window to buy for essentially two years

when Barca did it they delayed it last summer and got Suarez, Bravo, Ter Stegen, Rakitic, Mathieu, Rafinha

Madrid are light at striker and at the back, so they would most likely do the same thing. So if it gets levied against them before January they would have to delay it for then, and have the ban be for next summer and winter 2017. \

Which would mean that DDG can go there on a free but cant play for a season basically, don't know if he is willing to do that. So its a tin foil hat conspiracy but maybe United expect something like that to happen and hope it persuades him to stay
