Did this accurately predict the gender of your baby?
I just tried it on 4 people I know and it was wrong for each one.

Mine says I should be having a boy. Ultrasound tech thinks it will be a girl.

http://www.centerforinquiry.net/blog...er_prediction/

All these gender prediction methods are BS I think. I remember seeing a great chart that showed all the common methods and how none of them really worked.

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/...blers-fallacy/

There are a few rooted in a bit of Science.

Seems like severe morning sickness (requiring hospitalization) can indicate a 50% greater chance of it being a girl.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...ubmed_RVDocSum

It also seems like Mothers in good physical condition are more likely to produce Males and Mothers in poor physical condition females.

Since I am not having a child, I thought I'd see if it worked for me. I counted back 40 weeks from when I was born to find out the age and month where my dad was boning my mom. The chart is inaccurate, so maybe I'm just part of the 10%. Was anyone else able to find out if the chart was accurate while thinking about their parents having sex with each other?

Well 40 weeks is going by the date of the last period whereas they wouldn't have been boning at that time to conceive you. Babies are conceived at 2 weeks or so.

I believe a doc considers the LMO as the conception date?

I don't think so... regardless, we're talking about the Chinese gender predictor's date of conception and not a doctor.

It's a girl!

So last Wednesday my wife and I were eating dinner and her water broke. She was only 35 weeks to the day, so there was a little bit of denial going on. She thought maybe the baby pushed on her bladder or something. We went to the hospital and they determined that yes, it was in fact labour starting. At 7:35 am on Thursday, August 13, 2015 we welcomed our little girl into the world. We named her "Fawn Nika". Nika was the frontrunner name for some time and Fawn was on the backburner as a possible middle name. After a couple of days of getting to know her, with her big eyes and tiny fragile demeanor, We decided to go with Fawn. She was 5 pounds 6 ounces at birth but has dropped to just under 5 pounds, which is apparently normal.

Like a lot of premies, she is going to have to be in the nursery for a bit before we can take her home. She hasn't quite figured out how to feed yet and jaundice levels are border line, so they want to monitor her. One nurse thinks that she might come home Wednesday, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I have never been so excited for something in my whole life. It's such a wonderful feeling.

Some shameless photos below:

Congrats FA!

For the other dads out there: We're 3 weeks new parents now, and our boy has started non-stop crying for a few hours right before what should be bedtime. Any pro-tips?

hey calf - welcome to the party!!! when was your boy born? ours was july 22!

our newborn is doing the exact same thing. he seems to have no problem chilling during the day, but come night time he has a tough time (i usually get him in the early evenings while my wife tries for get our girl to sleep). if i recall correctly, our girl was the exact same way.

from what i've been told, in the womb babies tend to sleep during the day and are more "awake" over night while mom sleeps. i guess this makes a little sense - during the day mom is up and moving around and that movement would tend to 'rock the baby back to sleep' but over night while mom is mostly still that doesn't happen. it takes a bit before the newborn adjusts to the new sleep pattern.

i usually just hold my boy in my arms and rock him while walking thru the house - that seems to work pretty well. he can totally tell when i try sitting down and rocking him... and will have none of it!! ha! ha!

listen for his stomach churning and if you hear that try to get him to burp. if that doesn't work maybe try a little gripe water

the tough part is that every kid is different and there is no magical formula

enjoy being a dad - it's freakin' AWESOME!!! (even when they don't stop crying for what seems like an eternity)

That sounds like my guy (born July 27) to a tee. Hadn't thought of the stomach churning...that is a great tip.
Thanks!

My little bundle of joy was born on Tuesday August 11 by c-section. She is our third and it has been a huge adjustment getting used to having a baby again. My son was born 4 years ago and my first daughter over 7 years ago and my wife and I thought that would be our little family unit but things don't always work out the way we plan. It has been so hard always being tired and sleepy taking care of my daughter (while still including the other kids and making sure they don't feel left out) but I haven't felt this good in a long time. Congratulations to all the parents.

Whiskey man and lots of it!

It's been years since my kids were little but my baby girl always liked a tight swaddle. Wrapped up just right kept her comfy and quiet most nights. Admittedly I got lucky with both of my kids when it came to sleeping as babies. I have more problems now with my 4 year old than I did when she was a baby.

Congrats to the new partents.

Every birth has a story that winds and twists with the weather. Ours was no different. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 pm on Wednesday after enduring three days of induction processes with minimal sleep in between. Things were finally moving after being 11 days overdue.

As the evening passed into night more induction tactics were introduced, some successes, some failures. As the entire unit commented; we tried and used every tool in the box, every weapon in the arsenal and the whole buffet, but alas there was no dilation passed five. Our baby was stuck. With no other options it was off to the OR for an emergency C section due to a fluctuating heartbeat.

The team in the OR quickly worked and popped out our boy at 6:03 am Thursday August 27. Healthy and hearty at 7lbs 7 oz.

As terrified as my wife was of the C section she was a champion even though a few tears streamed down her right cheek. She never ceases to amaze me, and I have never been so proud of her. She is now getting some well deserved rest with her latest accomplishment under her belt - Mother.

Born in the predawn smokey skies of Southern, Alberta, it was 12C with light winds out of the south.

Meet Franklin Peter
