Can anyone confirm/reject this? Bunk?
From what I can tell the West Village ARP doesn't touch Shaw, nor can I see a rationale whereby the city exchanges a well-used space for what would certainly be less used.

It doesn't specifically say: but there's a huge section of the actual city of calgary plans that discusses the need for open parks and ssystems and blah blah blah.. all the diagrams show just an empty green space. They dont' show a skatepark..

I stand corrected: "The function, viability, and diversity of Shaw Millennium Park should be maintained and protected. Any adjacent redevelopment impacting redesign of the park should be done in consultation with the various park user groups." From the city arp.

A glass box stadium woud fit right in with all our glass box skyscrapers. 
(They're cool-shaped glass boxes, but still the trend away from diversity in colour and texture is not one I appreciate in today's architecture.)

From my understanding it was forced through so the city could have a suitable venue for the rugby world cup. There was and continues to be plenty of opposition to it. Even four years later there are regular reports in the local paper about the drain the stadium has had on the city and region.
As flameswin pointed out though, the cost and population aren't really an issue for Calgary, though that being said, we (Calgary) could do so much better than this. Apart from the fancy roof, Forsyth Barr is a pretty bare bones facility on the inside. The end bleachers they use are like the temporary aluminum ones we see at McMahon for grey cup games.

And THEY bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh, this is a Nazi bar now. And its too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

If Canadian cities could draw 80k for football games, the CFL would be dead and NFL would be here in a heartbeat.

Keep in mind it's probably not to scale the area is a lot bigger than it looks on the cities. Model. Google earth it and see for yourself there's enough room for the footprint of a staples centre size building. Ofc all the rumors suggest it's going on the greyhound site but who knows with other development how this all would work. I guess we'll find out on tuesday!

It was really more ambiguous than anything else
"Due to the limited seating and the significant interest in this presentation, these first sessions are for primary season ticket holders only (guests are not permitted) and your rsvp is non-transferable."
Since the two of use jointly own 2 season tickets, we are both, by definition, primary season ticket holders. It hardly seems fair that just because I get the emails to my email address I should get an invite and he should not.

Not likely. Canadian teams tend to be a negative draw at the gate in U.S. cities, and games involving Canadian teams are a total non-starter on American TV. Toronto has been trying for decades to get an NFL franchise, with no success. The NFL just isn't interested.

No one has committed to build a building in Toronto and they didn't have an owner will to outbid Pegula for the Bills.
Toronto doesn't have an NFL team because no one is willing to invest 3 billion to put one there.
