Article says only 7 were killed? That was an insane explosion. They'll be extremely lucky if only 7 people died.

My wife has most of her family living in Tianjin, so far those she has been able to contact are safe.
Really scary stuff.

Police in Tianjin said at least seven people were killed. They said an initial blast took place late Wednesday night at shipping containers of a warehouse for hazardous materials owned by a logistics company.
The official Xinhua News agency said an initial explosion triggered other blasts at nearby businesses. The National Earthquake Bureau reported two major blasts before midnight, the first with an equivalent of 3 tons of TNT, and the second with the equivalent of 21 tons .

What could cause something like that? From reports, whatever it was was just labeled 'dangerous goods'?

There's been reports 2,000 people work at this facility. Not sure if that means 2,000 were in the building at the time or if that's just how many work there.

70k dead? That's around the and levels as atomic bombing of Hiroshima in WWII.
Hopefully this is just a sensationalized figure.

Thanks.
Other reports are saying only 7 dead. A far cry from 70k.

Sort of looks like a magnesium explosion to me. Extremely bright bluish flame on initial and bright flaming debris/pieces thrown into the air, setting off other items like fuel tanks.
I believe a large amount of the worlds magnesium goes through Tianjin.
