Do this to a girl in your workplace and you are facing a sexual harassment complaint.
Dude was an idiot, and the RCMP complaint is completely warranted.

TBH I'm surprised things like this don't happen every time a live broadcast is being done in a large public area. You're at a music festival. People are on alcohol and drugs. They see a live TV broadcast being done. People act like asses in the background.
What the guy did was stupid, yes. I agree with the RCMP getting involved. However if CBC's #1 concern truly is employee security, they will have her behind a barricade next time or at least something where no one can run up on her from behind.

This is a tough one.
On the one hand she shouldnt have to put up with this crap, but on the other hand its an occupational hazard that you're going to have to deal with if you're interviewing random people.
Random people thrown on TV are liable to do something out of character or, get this, random!
So thats the question: She certainly shouldnt have to put up with it, but is a peck on the cheek worth an RCMP complaint? I dont know.

It needs to be a news story though, because there is obviously a large number of people that don't think this is a big deal. It's absolutely not okay to do this to someone on live TV, and I don't think people are taking it seriously. Maybe the reporting of this will get people to think twice before bestowing unwanted physical contact upon someone who's just trying to do their job.

I think the complaint is warranted as is the attention. I hope the accused doesn't get charged, issues a sincere apology and everyone moves on.

That girl in the background slowly creeping up was kind of unnerving as well. Maybe the forced kiss actually saved her from something far more sinister.

Not the best thing to do on his part but this is something you should be able to shrug off as drunk guy being drunk.
If she's that traumatized by something so innocuous she should really be wearing a hazmat suit everywhere. Filing a police complaint is unneccessary.

People in broadcasting will tell you bystanders have always done stupid stuff around TV cameras, but it's happening more and more often these days. Hard to say why. Is it a general lack of self-restraint, or a desperate need to be seen by others?

I am pretty sure that she walks past again at the end of the scene. She was definitely planning something.
I agree that the complaint is warranted but don't want to see the internet track him down and ruin his life. Let the RCMP deal with it.

Let's play a game and flip this around:
Guy reporter and a random girl kisses him on the cheek. Do perceptions change?

Almost certainly and absolutely correctly so?

change it again and see if the tolerance is the same:
Guy reporter and random guy kisses him on cheek
Woman reporter and random woman kisses on check
Teen reporter for kids show and an adult kisses on check...
paramedic on a scene and random person kisses on check
cop on scene and someone kises on cheek..
( well that probably is the most unlikely scenario)
If it is wrong in most scenarios it probably is wrong in all scenarios

There's always a surprising lack of education in these things. "Harmless peck on the cheek" Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate did it so it's all good. "What if a girl did the same thing?" Kind of sounding like 1970 all over again.
Just to be clear, kissing someone without consent is illegal and will get you in trouble no matter how cute you assume you are.

I'm not arguing that it's not right, it's obviously illegal. But this reporter seems to want to start a witch hunt for the guy, which I think is excessive.

I'd be willing to bet that the guy used to be one of those FHRITP guys before that whole firing thing with the Ontario Hydro guy went down...

Or she's making a point that behavior like this could lead to charges. As other posters have said, this is becoming a more common occurrence. I don't think it's a bad idea to make an example out of this case. Maybe set the precedent that people won't & shouldn't get away with sexual harassment when they do things like this.

To be clear, this was not sexual harassment, though it may have been sexual assault - whether this counts as "applying force" to the reporter in a manner that violated her sexual integrity. I don't know the case law on what the standard is there (apparently a bunch of contextual factors come into play in determining this).

Someone at the CBC has a crusade going on this topic. Their reporting of the idiotic FHRITP thing shows this, as they keep characterizing it as a personal attack on female reporters when it's really a meme that has been used all over the world with reporters of both genders. It's apparent this stuff really grinds somebody's gears there.
