That is very expensive for a rental player. Obviously AA is fired if they do it and miss the playoffs.

I just got another notification from the score saying we are closing in on a deal to get price. Sounds that we may in fact be the front runners. Exciting, but I'm also nervous at what the price is going to be. If we give up the farm for price then we better make the playoffs at the very least.

Is there a zero chance of him re-signing with the Jays if they get him?

thus far he has accumulated 3.5fWAR on the season so if we prorate that out over the remainder of the year that comes out to an expected win above replacement of 1.29 over the rest of the season if you add that to the half win or so that you'd get upgrading to Tulo from Reyes you still don't make up the two that the Jays are currently out (and that's assuming no additional DL stints above expected or parallel improvements from the other teams.
It'd be close but certainly not enough to warrent the risk.

Disagree, A pitcher of David Price (for example) caliber compared to a starter from AAA.
Will provide a significant difference...
As for the risk of the lose of assets that's another question...
No question the Jays believe they require another starter

All in for a rental, very unlike AA. I'm not sure about this or why AA would go against his philosophy, maybe the Tigers will give AA time to negotiate a longer term with Price.

If they do infact acquire Price and make the playoffs and have some success I don't know why it would be difficult to re-sign Price. Obviously they have opened up their pockets to acquire Tulo.

They have to go all in this year. Get price. The franchise has been irrelevant for 20 years. Every WS winner has had to spend to get there.
The Canadian public can't get a smartphone plan for less than 65 bucks a month, the least Rogers could do is let is watch some playoff baseball. Stop being cheap.

Price has little incentive to sign a long-term deal now unless the Blue Jays are offering $30 million a season. He's an elite LH starting pitcher, he's guaranteed to get at least $25 million a season in FA.

Obviously this would help with making the playoffs and that needs to happen first, but with the Yankees kind of running away with the division, it sure would feel nice to be able to send out David Price in the one game wild card playoff game.

You lose Buerhle and Dickey after this year and you pay Price whatever dollar amount he wants

This just makes no sense. If you are willing to spend this kind of prospect capital... Why not just have gone all in for Hamels?
Their rotation and prospect cupboard will be decimated for next year.
Unless they can/are willing to re-sign Price quickly... in which case I'm on board.

Expectation among rival executives is that Norris and Alford will be in package for Price going from #BlueJays to #Tigers

Those names are not confirmed. Deal is not yet complete. But again, all signs point toward #BlueJays.

Jays need to be in win mode now. If I'm AA, I trade every single prospect I have if I have the opportunity to make it to the dance

I would say that whoever Price is replacing is not even replacement level though.
This isn't the usual move for AA, but lots of speculation online is that with Beeston retiring (and taking the ridiculous 5-year max contract restriction with him) and Buherle off the books this summer the Jays might make a big run at a front-end starter. Acquiring Price and making the playoffs would go a long way towards him re-signing with the Jays. Obviously money talks, but you always see these elite rental players re-sign with their club if they can put forth a competitive offer.
