Area code alone makes it better than Edmonton's...

Would I consider a new corrugated metal shed to be an improvement on McMahon Stadium?

One poster said it will be a convertible stadium which wikipedia says has movable seating. Maybe the stadium will be able to handle football, soccer, concerts and field events depending on what's needed.

2022 winter Olympics host city is being chosen on Friday. Annoucement that Calgary is vying for 2026 coupled with arena/stadium announcement to follow?

2026 seems awfully ambitious no? I would imagine the city/province/country would be much more comfortable for a 2030 bid?

I think part of it depends on if Toronto bids for 2024. Seems ambitious to bid on a summer and winter games in the same decade.

OK I think I have put two and two together here...
You lived in Auckland New Zealand. The number one thing about New Zealand aside from those little birds is Murray and Rugby. The best Thing about Rugby is those all-black socks. You state that your socks are going to be knocked off! knocked off as in illegally counterfeit. Therefore the Flames will be incorporating a black rugby sock, illegal sweat shop into the plans. It will be sponsored and known as the Reebock Sock centre.
Amirite?

Not spoiling for a tiff here like you appear to be but re-read my post. I said 'it would be a shame' if the stadium design were compromised. I understand that a combo facility and a great design are not mutually exclusive but that wasn't my point.

Clearly since the new design will not require socks, I can only conclude that there will in fact be a covered football stadium in which I will no longer have to wear socks to keep from frostbite. And unfortunately the new arena will also be comfortably warm and therefore poor ice will continue to be a problem... Disappointing

The arena's going to be 1000 feet in the air on top of a giant cowboy boot.

People don't seem willing to accept there are things that happen at different stages that can delay things. I for one very much appreciate any small tidbit you are comfortable sharing.

I feel like I have crazy blue balls on this. And yeah, it sucks getting blue balls but at least muta is willing to give the metaphorical foreplay to get there. It's better than nothing.

See, I don't really want a convertible "field house stadium". As has been proven time and time again, multisport facilities rarely excel at providing the best layout for any sport. I'd love a football specific retractable roof stadium of around 40,000. The field house can be a seprate building. For all this waiting the project better be a stunner! After just returning from Phoenix, their facilities blow ours out of the water. It's time for Calgary to regain the confidence it once had in the 80's when they were building things a city of its size had no business building.

Actually the 80s were a recession period or a depression if you lost your job. There were buildings half built and stayed that way for maybe 10 years. The Saddledome, the Red Square and the Talisman Centre were the last of the big construction jobs till the 90s. They did expand the C Train though which was a good idea when costs are down.
