Plus the fact they've only been married a year and it's not his daughter (therefore no child support - not that child support is a concern, eh Glenn Anderson?).
The poor woman is in a real tough spot.

In theory you can divorce immediately if there is abuse, however finding a lawyer or judge to actually put through that paperwork is the harder part. They don't like doing this immediate divorce and many will refuse to do so and prefer you be separated for a year and have restraining and parenting orders in place that will be rolled over onto the divorce. They want to give the other party a chance to response about money and property matters.
Even if you do get a "quick" one, it could be held up in courts for a year and cost more money then waiting for a year and doing it the normal way. Again, many lawyers will talk the abused person into doing it this way because the quick divorce isn't.

The police reports are now available
PDF of the police report: http://media.trb.com/media/acrobat/2...1-04175255.pdf
http://www.latimes.com/sports/kings/...205-story.html
Quote:
Marta Varlamova, Voynov’s wife, told police the couple started arguing during a Halloween party. Voynov removed her costume glasses and stomped on them, then, outside the venue, he punched her in the left jaw, according to the report.
When asked by police what the argument was about, Varlamova “stated that she could not remember,” the report said.
The dispute continued in the bedroom of the couple’s Redondo Beach home, Varlamova told police. Voynov, she said, choked her neck with both hands three times.
“Voynov pushed her to the ground approximately six to seven times with both hands, telling her that he wanted a divorce and to ‘Get out,’ “ the report said.
Varlamova told police that Voynov then kicked her five to six times while on the ground. She said she screamed for him to stop.
When she rose, the report said, Voynov pushed her into the corner of a flat-screen television mounted on the wall, opening a gash above Varlamova’s left eye. Varlamova said the couple’s bedroom was “covered in her blood.”
“Voynov ‘got scared’ and the attack stopped,” the report said.

Quote:
Torrance Police officers first responded to the medical center at 11:58 p.m. on Oct. 19 after a call from a nurse.
Later, in the emergency room lobby, after Redondo Beach police were called, an officer asked Voynov how Varlamova was injured.
“Voynov stated she hit the edge of the television as she was getting out of bed,” the report said. “Voynov denied striking and pushing [Varlamova] into the television. No further questions were asked.”

If that's true, I hope that puke never plays another game of pro hockey again.

Have learned that the Kings have also suspended Slava Voynov, in addition to the NHL. His salary does not count against LA's cap...
Jon Rosen @lakingsinsider
...am told that part of the impetus for Voynov's suspension by LA was due to the injury he suffered away from hockey activity.
Voynov severed his Achilles tendon while waiting for trial. Will be interesting to see if he argues that he was injured while keeping in shape.
Jon Rosen @lakingsinsider
With Voynov off the books, the #LAKings have roughly $59.98M spent on 16 players for 15-16. In the process of trying to learn more...

For all it's faults, I'm glad the NHL is dealing with this incident seriously, unlike the NFL or NBA. This kind of thing should not be tolerated, and if convicted, he should never play another game in the NHL until he apologizes for his actions, takes Anger Management courses, and possibly some Domestic Violence sensitivity training. Even then, he should be not allowed to play for at least one year.
People make mistakes, but this type of thing is unacceptable.

Voynov to plead no contest to misdemeanor count of corporal injury to a spouse and get three years probation, 90 days jail.

SO what does this mean? Misdemeanor means he stays and plays?

DA says conviction will result in Voynov deportation. Defense is objecting to that, saying it is not mandatory. Some debate.
Judge clarifies that possible Voynov deportation is a matter for immigration court, not this court.
Voynov also has to pay fines of approximately $700 and do a 52-week domestic violence course and 8 hours of community service.

Which court would decide if he should be launched into the sun or not?
That's what court he should be in.

Even if he weren't deported, he wouldn't be able to cross the border while on probation would he?

Should state here that absolutely not a given Slava Voynov gets reinstated. NHL will still conduct its own investigation before deciding.
And by his plea today, Slava Voynov acknowledges wrongdoing in open court. Admits domestic abuse incident. That is significant #LAK

If Voynov violates probation, DA says, 90 days will become 364.
90 days jail can be served in county jail or any local jail facility (in other words he can pay for it somewhere.) #Slava Voynov

Yeah, I don't think the NHL will let him back anyway. Letting players who beat their spouses back into the league doesn't look good.

He could, if both the American courts and Canadian immigration officials permitted it. If he pleads to only a misdemeanor, I would personally think they wouldn't bar him, though conditions might be placed.

Yep, Voynov will probably be KHL bound before the season starts.

Conversely, I think they absolutely will allow him back.
It doesnt look good, it wont look good, but I think they'll do it once hes all square with the man and done his time in the hoosegow.
You ever worked a union job? This is the ultimate union gig and I think his union will make sure that hes on the ice to start next season, appearances be damned.

I don't think it is a coincidence that the 90 day jail term lines up with training camp.
