Chiarelli is definitely showing he is so much different than the 2 stoogies (KLown and McT). Those two would rather sign some no talent D and announce that this person will help the Oilers tremendously. Chiarelli would not hesitate to bring a Sekera.

Sekera is not a top pairing d-man on a good team. On the Oilers though, he instantly becomes their best option.

Sekara = Petry.
He's a decent addition for the Oilers, but it has to be taken in context. Their defense is no better than last season as this is just a replacement for Petry - a #3/4 guy who is expected to be a #1. This signing just gets them back to even footing from last season. If they don't make any other moves defensively the Oilers have done nothing to improve upon their biggest hole by far.

Letest seems like a good add for 3C. Perhaps cheaper than Gordon. Apparently can play the point on the PP which is something the Oilers have been missing for awhile.

Decent additions for the Oilers. Chiarelli has very quickly put his stamp on this team. They still are the Oilers, and they still suck, but there is nothing wrong with a marginally better Oilers team.

Not surprised to see the most overrated d-man on the market go to the Oilers. Anyone who thinks he's more than a #4/5 on a solid blueline clearly hasn't watched the guy. This season was the best you're gonna see from him.
