Short memories. The Libs and NDP opposed pretty much everything during the Harper minority governments. They even put on that farce that was the contempt of parliament vote.
They told every reporter they could find how the Cons were destroying Canada and our democracy, how (insert bill) was the worst legislation ever, how the majority of Canadians didn't want said bill. As long as it wasn't a confidence vote they went against the government every time with rare exception. When it came time for a confidence vote they conveniently caught the flu or had a family emergency, when pressed the leaders would say that Canadians don't want an election right now. I'm vaguely remembering when the Cons called a quick unexpected vote and there were Libs dashing out the door to avoid being caught in it.
Minority governments can put through almost anything they want, it has little to do with compromise , the opposition won't trigger an election until the polls tell them to.

^ Well that is par for the course, except for the contempt of parliament. That was because the government was lying to parliament and not disclosing information they had. I can't believe how often that gets overlooked as though it was just made up. The CPC was acting in a terrible manner, but rather than admit it, CPC partisans would prefer to suggest that the Liberals and NDP trumped it up.

I'm just blown away that it was C-51 that was a catalyst for a shift. The Cons have been eroding privacy for the last decade, but I suppose C-51 was too much too fast.

It's very likely that the NDP and Liberals can get along well enough to govern.

I don't think C-51 has much to do with it. I think people are just sick of Harper and the Conservatives and have decided they might be willing to try the NDP. The constant senate issues, the environment, c-51 and the NDP winning in Alberta and showing they might actually have a chance to win are all contributing. More of a death by a thousand paper cuts than one decisive move.

Don't forget the F-35 debacle.

C-51 may have helped, but people are in for a pretty big surprise if they think anyone they elect is giving that back.
It's here to stay, regardless of the government.

That's the biggest reason IMO. I doubt more than 5% of people really know what the C-51 bill is about.

I'm tired of these petty attack ads on T.V by all the parties. I can't respect any of them.

I should have added those terrible Conservative ads on Trudeau don't help them either. I'm sure they are prepping some NDP ads with these latest poll results, they better hope they can do better than they've done with Trudeau.

I've seen attack ads by other parties on Harper and the conservatives. Like I said, I can't respect ANY party that does it.

Yeah I must be watching the wrong channels, because the only ones I've seen are the pitiful "hurr he's not ready" ads, and the "Harper, he's just a typical guy!" one.

You're about to be left with no respect for any of them, so let me welcome you to the club! They are all going negative because it works.
At this point Harper and the CPC are hitting Trudeau because they need the Liberals who voted for him last time to do it again. It's now they get to a majority from that ceiling of 31% noted on that 308 poll on the last page. If it becomes a two horse race (its a dead heat for now) they could switch to the NDP, but at this point those attacks are sensible.

Interesting to finally see some policy out of Trudeau over the last few weeks.
On democratic reform: He's painted himself into a corner by ignoring the democratic reform he promised about open nominations.
On Climate Change: his policy looks an awful lot like Canadian wealth re-distribution under the guise of the environment.
Mulclair is taking the slippage by Trudeau and running with it. Impressed that he's been able to seize it and bank it so quickly.

It's such a bizarre tactic though because those ads seem like they'd only resonate with 55+ crowd. Everyone else is just doing a collective eye-roll.

The CPC Twitter account is pretty much all attack ads. Some NDP attacks in there.
