If anyone suggested that we'd get Hamilton for 15th + 45th + 52nd even a few days ago, it woulda been dismissed as a pipe dream.

Holy ####.

I hope the other GMs boo Treliving when he's at the podium.

Just to clarify, we can't sign him for 8 because we arent his original team, correct?

You know this is a steal when NHL 15 declines this trade.

This is what the flexibility of having those 6 picks in the first three rounds allowed Treliving to do. Bravo sir! Well played in turning Baertschi and Glencross into those picks in a strong draft and well played to turning all the picks into exactly what we needed (big, RH, top pairing young dman). We shortcut 4 years of development. Huge trade.

Incredible.

And of course, the trade gives Flames team president Brian Burke a chance to hop in the DeLorean and correct a “mistake” from his past: Dealing away the picks that became Hamilton and Tyler Seguin to the Boston Bruins for Phil Kessel in 2009.

The Hockey News calls it "an over the top win."

Calgary’s young core even better with Dougie added in the mix

Would the Flames have been able to talk to Hamilton's agent prior to this trade? Could they have a deal agreed in principle with the Agent without having direct contact with the player?

According to John Shannon, Flames were NOT given permission to talk to Hamilton or his agent prior to trade.

Interesting fan poll on http://flames.nhl.com/

Who do you think the Flames will select with the 15th pick at the NHL Draft?

I'm curious about this as well. I'm sure the internet (aka sureLoss) will have the answer.

We can because we own his rights and we would be re-signing him.

They can sign him to 8 years. The rights holder can sign players to an eight year deal. Outside teams in FA can only make 7 year offers max.

I still can't believe this. A big right-handed 22 year old defenseman with great possession stats ... in addition to T.J. freakin Brodie, and Treliving didn't have to move any core players. Just ... wow

If the mentioned 5.5m asking price is correct, then 7 or 8 years should be a no brainer.
