watching Keith and Doughty in the playoffs over the last few years, to me there is no doubt those two are the best. Karlsson is good but doesnt strike me as a real playoff performer like the other two...

Keith, Doughty and Weber are arguably the best 3 in the league. Two of them have never won a Norris. Seems wrong.

They should have an award for the top offensive defenseman. That way the Karlsson's and Subban's of the world can win it and the Norris can truly go to the best all around defenseman.

Something just occurred to me: The Masterton Trophy usually goes to a guy who fought back from a career-threatening injury, a major disease, or some personal tragedy.
  • Moore won it last year for returning to the game after taking time off to care for his dying wife.
  • Harding won it two years ago for returning after being diagnosed with MS.
  • Numerous guys have won it after fighting cancer (Kessel and Lemieux to name two).

Devan Dubnyk essentially won the Masterton this year for surviving being an Edmonton Oiler.

He beat Letang, who returned after having a stroke. The League has basically said that being an Edmonton Oiler is a bigger obstacle to overcome than a stroke.

Hell, Olli Maatta actually had cancer surgery this season, and Letang was still the Penguins' nominee. So, a stroke is worse than cancer, but still not as bad as being an Oiler.

They need to have a Bobby Orr trophy for the offensive minded d men and leave the Norris for the best all around.

Probably not. They know he's good, but he definitely gets less exposure playing in the West.
It's always been the argument, certainly for Iginla (although that was pure Quebecios bias) but back well into the 80's.

Probably a more representative list of all the teams or regions is in order to ensure proper and balanced voting, but good luck getting some of these guys out east and their massive egos to believe that there should be more equal representation. All that would do would be diluting their own vote and thus diluting their feeling of self-importance that they have granted themselves as supposed "stewarts" for the game/protecting integrity, or whatever they like to call themselves to make them feel better.

Just looked...teams like Calgary have 7 members, teams like ANA, Carolina have 3 or 4, Dallas has 1, Bos/TOR/MTL have 15+ each...but not just sunbelt teams get low rep, an O6 team in Chicago has only 5.

Two trophies makes sense to me, but he best all around defenseman should be awarded the Bobby Orr.

Jiri Hudler is the MAN! I've heard some stories before about his partying ways but probably not best to share, especially since we all got a glimpse tonight. what a beauty.

Given Ovechkin was voted to the All-Star Team at two different positions a couple years ago, it seems rather optimistic to believe that most PHWA writers actually watch any hockey beyond their own team's games.

Brad Park finished 2nd in Norris voting 6 times.

Happy to see Hartley win, Hudler stole the show, that was fantastic. What can I say about Price? Humble, passing off praise to his teammates. Glad he's on my team.

This, quite frankly, cannot be thanked enough.

Someone needs to get this printed in the Edmonton Journal.

Actually, we need to first figure out how to write this out in pictures so that the average Edmontonian can read it.
