29 years ago, 125,000 people watched the parade and attended the rally at Stampede Park for a team that lost the Cup, in a city that had half as many people as Calgary has now. That was in the middle of the week (I remember that I wasn't able to go because we were on a field trip in Kananaskis that day).

Dude when it comes to the Canucks, it could be a team of Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, Augusto Pinochet, Josef Stalin and Kim Jong Il and if one of them scores against the Canucks you take it.

I have no doubts that the parade and a rally somewhere central like the Stampede grounds would be well attended as people wouldn't have to take a day off to attend and could just cut out of work for an hour or so.

McMahon is what I disagree with.
I'm blown away that you're actually willing to keep defending that ridiculous assertion. McMahon Stadium? As in McMahon Stadium in Northwest Calgary?
The ONLY thing you've got correct is that there are people who may skip a celebration if it's too far away from them. As in a few people.
What you are so dead wrong about that it's actually mind boggling, is the suggestion that 36000 people wouldn't be willing to go somewhere and celebrate a Flames Cup victory. You make it seem like there's maybe 40000 Calgarians that would take the time to celebrate with the team, but ONLY if they make it central. If they move it WAY OUT to McMahon Stadium, well now that number's going to drop significantly, and they'll be in tough to fill it?
Good lord man, I was willing to let it go after you got piled on because I figured you'd reflect a bit and realize you were wrong, but then I remember your style on CP in that you literally don't back down from anything ever, despite having any number of facts/realities brought to your attention.
It's beyond ridiculous. You were that way when you were a young high school poster, but I figured you'd grow up and realize that what makes us knowledgeable and experienced as we age is our ability to learn from everything and everyone around us. You've shown zero ability to do this over the years. You still have a high school mentality of coming up with an opinion and then defending it to the death against everyone and every fact available.
I realize this is slightly different as obviously we can't confirm until we actually have a celebration, but based on all history in Canadian, and hell even American Stanley Cup celebrations, you're completely out to lunch, more so than anyone ever has been on Calgarypuck. But it's that same Polak style, it's concerning and unbecoming for someone your age.

We're talking hundreds of thousands of Calgarians celebrating a cup victory Polak, with tens of thousands coming in or already in from out of town.
You know what a realistic assertion relating to McMahon not filling up would be?
"If the Flames held a Stanley Cup celebration at McMahon Stadium that ONLY out of town Flames fans could attend, they might be hard pressed to fill the Stadium".
You'll say that's ridiculous, but it's actually much more closer to reality than suggesting a Canadian hockey market would have trouble filling a medium sized football stadium for a celebration.
Ya McMahon is selling out easy. I'd actually be kind of choked if they did it there because a lot of people would miss out.
Don't worry that'd never happen. If anything somewhere like McMahon would be the END place for a large parade that catered to the hundreds of thousands of Calgarians ready to celebrate anywhere, anytime.
But more likely they'd probably have a typical parade route downtown that would maybe end at Olympic Plaza or somewhere like that for a speech. So I'm guessing like 3 - 400k along the route and then they've cram as many people into Olympic Plaza as they could (even shutting down the streets around it) to get like 40 - 50k in to see the speech. (In 04, they only got like 30k in there, but I believe that's because they didn't shut down the streets behind and beside it which should allow for another 10- 20 k fans even if they're way away from the stage).
Nobody should worry about Polak's assertion, it's just completely and utterly wrong, and not even in the realm of reality.

lol.
Your outrage with my disagreement over a simple attendance prediction is far more concerning. Some guy on the internet disagrees with you from time to time and your reactions get hilariously more and more escalated every time it happens. It would be one thing if you were presenting actual facts and data but unfortunately for all of us, there hasn’t been a cup win with a subsequent celebration at McMahon on Weekday at 2 pm, therefore I can predict whatever I want.
Here’s some actual numbers. In 2004, it was a grand total of 30,000 people that showed up to celebrate the Flames 2004 run at Olympic Plaza on a Sunday:
How many people do you think would’ve shown up on a weekday during work hours? Maybe half? Now move that to McMahon and not downtown.
Sure that was a cup loss, at a different time and didn’t come with a parade but I think your hilarious outrage at the idea that hey, maybe we wouldn’t be able to fill a far flung stadium (let alone one the size of Soldier Field), is a little much.
Such a meaningless little off the cuff remark and you guys cry foul as if I just called for the Flames to be moved.

You know what? I'm done at this point. Yes, I'll concede that if the Flames won the Cup and held the celebration at McMahon they'd get about half the people they got at the '04 rally.
So yes Polak, you win. A cup celebration at 2pm on a Wednesday would see the Flames celebrating with 15000 people, or less fans than they get for a Monday night game against Arizona.
Good ****ing lord, you can't be for real as a poster. I sincerely hope you're playing a character or trolling when you post on CP.
Would you be happier if everyone just responded with "Yes, Polak, you're correct" to everything you posted here? Because from reading the constant arguments you get into where you have zero budge and are unwilling to waver despite any and all evidence is truly baffling.

Where did I say that 15,000 people would show up? I was just posting the only comparable numbers we have.
I wasn't looking for any sort of validation. In fact I said "agree to disagree" every time some one responded.
Read my original post.
All I was saying I was impressed by Chicago and their fans and saying that I'm not sure Calgary could match that. *GASP*

Relax people, we are projecting/hoping the Flames to win the cup in about 5 year's time? By then we will have a brand new hockey arena alongside a brand new multi-purpose football stadium with retractable roof at a super convenient location by West Village downtown. Everyone will be able to attend with the parade being held in such wonderful facilities in a centralized location?
Am I correct here?
