Could be that the Flames had Monahan, Klimchuk & Porier all rated higher.
You can't draft 4 of them with only 3 picks in the first 2 rounds.
I'm sure if one of Morgan or Emile were gone at 28, they would've selected Petan.
Who knows? If we still had #36 that year, maybe we would've picked him.

At the STH thing on Tuesday, Treliving said that they have three or four players coming to town next week (or later this week) for follow-up interviews. Obviously, he didn't name names, but I'm sure those will leak out at some point.

Shero says the Devils haven't been contacted yet by other teams in regards to moving up or down from #6.

For those who dig into those kinds of things, FC has released the 'Staff Mock'. Divided into three segments because of size, but I'm sure the middle section is the one of most interest.
Staff Mock Draft 1-10
Staff Mock Draft 11-20
Staff Mock Draft 21-30

^ Connor would be a steal for the Flames. I hope that happens.

Interesting comments thoughts from Pronman on Edmonton radio:
Svechnikov
- talked to NHL people that think he is a top 10 talent, some who think he is a top 20 talent, some who think he is a top 30 talent and some who don't have him in their top 45.
- wide variance may be because he didn't have major exposure in international tournaments
doesn't think Meier will be available at 16.
J. Roy is 50/50 to be available at 16. Had a very good last part of the season and was one of the best d-men at the U18s. Have talked to scouts who have him later 1st round.

Connor is a Modano type player. I would love it if Connor fell down to CGY.
You can never not want a Modano type on your team.

Him or anyone in McKenzie's top 13 will.
It's been hard to get excited about this draft compared to the last two - there isn't one guy I've been really favoring. It was Monahan and Bennett in the last two thanks to draft position but with the draft this year truly becoming wide open after the top 13 guys, I can't tell if the rest are players that would be considered a pick that's too early at 15 or not.

Connor would be a great pick, but I'd be very surprised if he fell to us. Especially since his stock has been rising steadily the last couple of months.

I think what he's getting at is when you are picking top six there's almost a certainty to two or three players being picked by your team so you can get attached to one or two guys and focus solely on them. A few years ago we had it down realistically to one of Monahan, Lindholm and maybe Nurse being the guy's that were almost certainty to be a Flame. Last year we pretty well knew we were getting one of the Sams. This year it's a total crapshoot and there really isn't a player or two you can overly focus on because there are so many more factors in play as you have consensus top 10 picks that drop and consensus 10-20 players that get picked earlier, and biggest of all we really have no idea of how the Flames have the players ranked in the 10-20 slot which is where the Flames are picking.

I say we move up to #6 and select Barzal. Would #15 and Klimchuck be enough?

If Werenski is still there at 11 I would love to move up to get him.
6'2", 214lbs, and putting up 25 points as a young 17 yr old defenseman in college is impressive.
Have to think Florida would prefer a forward anyways with a pretty deep young d-core, and they don't have a second round since they traded it for Jagr.

I think they would be open to trading down if both Meier and Zacha are off the board by 11.
