I take Kane and Toews. Toews brings tons of intangibles to a solid 2-way game and Kane is arguably the most dynamic player in the league, he can turn a game around and produce out of thin air.

Trying to think of comparables to Monahan, no name really popped up instantly. A less physical but better scoring Keith Primeau? Kopitar, Carter?

I think Kopitar is an excellent comparable. He's a bit more of a playmaker while Monny is more of a sniper, but I think that comparison is closer than Toews or Bergeron.

Aaronck...My honest opinion was that it WASN'T a tank job that led to Toews/Kane (and remember, Toews was only a #3 overall, and Kane was, by no means, because of concern about his size, a consensus #1)...It was a complete misjudgment by the idiot old guard front office on what was going to be successful, pre and post lockout, that caused a decade of fail. Senior VP, Bob Pulford, a total moron, who had total influence, was fixated on '70's style hockey, and for decades, thirsted after the mythical "power forward", and coveted too many of these type players, far past their sell-by dates...we had a lot of guys, Gilmour, Fleury, Wendell Clark, and the like, long after they were dominant players...and the Byzantine nature of the, then, front office, seemed to self sabotage in efforts to struggle for power (honestly, how can one explain the mismatch of a totally soft, non-NHL ready, Alpo Suhonen, to coach a team of grinders, except to make a point to front office rivals?)...the 'Hawks came out of the lockout with a lumbering, physical team of forwards, and guys like Aucoin and Cullimore, who were not mobile enough for the "New" NHL, along with nearly raw rooks, Seabrook, Keith, and Wisnewski, on D. The death of Dollar Bill Wirtz, and the abdication of elder son, Peter, allowed a more progressive thinking Rocky Wirtz to retire nearly the entire Pulford clique, and move the team into the modern NHL. Our team instantly got 1000% better when Pulford was removed from making hockey decisions. And serendipitously, the deep-end training of Seabs, DK, and Wiz, with a brilliant defensive teacher in Yawney, turned what was a weakness, into some stellar D-men.

Bennett is most certainly not a Towes. Bennett is a Gilmour. He's shifty, he's mean, he's dirty, and he'll outright make you wish you never had to play another game of hockey against him ever again.

He's not there yet, but he's most certainly going to be there soon.

What's exciting is how quickly Johnny is becoming just like Kane in that sense. He's only going to get better and will rival Kane as the most dynamic offensive player in the game within the next few years... If not as early as next year even. How many times did we see johhny create a prime scoring chance single-handedly this year? Even times where he was having a relatively quiet game he was always good for creating at least 2-3 quality opportunities.

I think he is more of a young Jeremy Roenick personally.

I would have said Toews and Kane everyday of the week until watching Getzlaf for five games against the Flames. I was blown away by how well he performed, despite already knowing he was a hell of a player.

i can't even make a decision... Different styles of players.

Sure he's got Gilmour bigtime...but so does Toews.

I've seen Monahan get compared to Toews on this board often. I don't think that's very accurate and I think Bennett is more similar in style to Toews than Monahan is. Bennett & Toews make their living being fearless, physical and borderline reckless in puck pursuit. Toews has a nasty streak too don't forget. In addition to having great all around skill, speed and high IQ.

Monahan to me shares more similarities with Kopitar. Big but not physical, exceptionally high IQ and are a threat to both pass and shoot from anywhere. Monahan doesn't have the same doggedness of puck pursuit as Toews, he's more cerebral.

I mean it doesn't matter but it's fun to compare . Down the road the up and coming young NHLers will be compared to Monahan, Bennett and Gaudreau.

That's why I said he had some Perry in him.

Toews has always reminded me of a bigger version of Gilmour, in terms of how he plays. Comparing Bennett to either is fair. I think the Monahan comparisons with Toews have more to do with the the two having a similiar 'serious' demenor. They're also both roughly the same size and love coming up in the clutch. Their play styles are quite different though.

I think this series kind of proved who the better duo is. Getzlaf and Perry were terrible in the big games and Kane and Teows as they usually do rise to the occasion and play their best hockey when it counts.

Can I change my pick? Getzlaf has looked horrible. As long as Kesler doesn't get his filthy hands anywhere near the cup I'm loving it.

Speed, Skill, and COMPOSURE, plus the willingness to be creative defeated strength and physicality in this head to head matchup, this time.

I started this thread and yup the series sealed my original assessment. I'd much rather have Toews and Kane. I'd actually take Toews-Kane 1-2 out of the 4. They always show up in big games. It's crazy how skilled Kane is with the puck and how clutch Toews is. Getzlaf-Perry would be 3-4.

Was Perry injured? Played like he was injured or like he was Kesler.

Pretty obvious who the better players are now. Getzlaf and Perry have no excuses anymore. 8 years of decent teams and no playoff appearances. Blame the rest of the team all you want, but they didn't show up and neither did Kesler.
