If it makes you feel any better, IMO, I don't find this behavior as rude as the non-tippers. I consider holding elevators same as holding a door. If you're holding it more than 5 seconds (unless special circumstances)... probably too much.

I dunno if rude or not, but to avoid annoying door situations, I often prefer to open a door by using the auto door opening thing (handicap sign button) and just walk through without a need to hold the door open.

That would be fine if it worked as advertised. The theory was it would group people around the similar floors to the same elevator thus those going to 23, 25, and 26 would all be grouped together and those on floors 12-15 would go on a different one.

Added to that 5 people on floor 20 went for coffee together and just one person scanned in therefore the elevator is overfull. As a result the people on floors 15 and 16 couldn't get on and your left stopping at those floors for no reason.

I'm impatient like you and the elevators GMG. They are already notorious in our building and universally hated. The theory was they would get calibrated over time but it's been mo this now and they are no better. The original system was way less annoying.

It also considers people getting on at those floors. The intelligent elevator is something like 20-30% more efficient meaning you can get rid of 1 or 2 elevators in a building which is a big savings.

Someone runs up to use the elevator you waited for and they didn't wait - someone wants to pull out of a parking lot in front of you in the traffic jam you've been waiting for so they don't have to wait.

I refuse to tip cab drivers unless they provide a service that most would not. Last night my girlfriend's friend was puking all over herself so the cab driver pulled over and grabbed a plastic bag for her to puke into which was really helpful so he got a nice tip. But like if you drive me home from the bar and say 3 words to me over the $25 fare you're getting no tip.

You guys who don't want to hold the elevator door open for someone but don't want to appear like a jerk should pretend that you're going for the open button but hit close instead. The person will appreciate you "trying. This only works if you're alone but farting when you enter should take care of that.

I think waiting in a traffic jam is a different scenario to waiting for an elevator, personally. As I've said, I relish that few seconds/minute of time alone to just chill before the doors open on my work floor and the flood gates of work crap open.

I have no problem letting someone in if they are pulling out from a parking lot, but I best get a wave or headnod of appreciation. I mean, nothing will happen if they don't. I might unleash some naughty words from my vocab, but they don't get to hear that.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the wave/head nod of appreciation as something they don't do. It's pretty rare nowadays to see that.

I think the no wave no headnod might be a calgary thing. In winnipeg it was very common to see a wave. I've adjusted to calgarians and stopped waving as well.

It might be programed wrong in your building. I used it in a couple other buildings downtown and it seams to work like it's suppose to. My last experience was at the devon building if that means anything.

I never tip cab drivers period. Your whole fare goes straight into their pocket anyways. It's not like going to a restaurant and tipping a server.

It's certainly nice since it shows appreciation. You may wave but it's very few and far between in calgary. I'm guessing most people that wave in this city just moved here. It's actually sad.
