Looking to pick the CP brain trust...

Just purchased a house and during the home inspection it was discovered that Kitec has been used for the in floor heating. Did some googling and it seems like this is a big deal. We then called our insurance company and they will not insure any house with Kitec.

Anyone come across this issue before? Lots of information on the Internet, some saying get it fixed before buying and others saying it's not a big deal, especially for in floor heating. The insurance piece is very concerning!

Can you have the in floor heating disconnected in the basement? Will they insure the house but not be liable for damage caused by in floor heating? Might at least be a temporary solution till the fittings get changed?

Can you just drain the pipes and not use the in floor heating?

They said they would not insure it if it's in the house, but I didn't think of disconnecting it, that is a thought!

Turns out just disconnecting it won't work, as long as it's in the house they will not insure it.

That seems like lost profit to an insurance company. They can insure the whole house but opt out of water damage and they won't do it? I'd phone around.

Yah, it sounds like some smaller places will insure it, but the premiums will be quite high. Going to have to talk to the sellers and see what we can do about it. It sounds like it could be an $8-10K fix to replace it all.

There's a class action lawsuit due to some issues with leaks and big breaks. Google it and there's lots of info.
