Yeah the Riggers are playing good here. Frankie is making big stops but Bold is one of the best goalies in the league. However, overall a pretty even half - 3 goals is nothing.

10-8 Rush win. Game 2 and possible 10 min game next Saturday in Calgary.

Played well in the 2nd half. Hopefully they can get a few more past Bold next week.

Roughnecks goalie was the star, spectacular saves could have been 20-8

Hopefully we can pack the Dome next weekend and show Edmonton fans what real lacrosse fans are.

I don't think Edmonton has ever had good Lacrosse attendance, have they? Calgary's worst crowds seem to be in the 8500-9000 range, while we seem to average 11-13k with 14-15k being a large turnout.

Every time I check Edmonton attendance it seems to be below 9k regardless of who or when they're playing.

That's be because despite what locals may tell you Edmonton is not a great sports town. Plus Rexall is an utter dump.

brutal call at the end of the first half of the tor/roc game.... the goal clearly goes in after the buzzer but the usual "inconclusive" argument rears its ugly head. lets see a guy 30 feet out still has the ball in his stick with 0.2 seconds on the clock yet it is somehow a goal? YEAH

Riggers got the benefit of one like that last time they one the championship, when Toth launched one from half at the buzzer. Realistically it was impossible for the goal to go in before the buzzer - but it counted.

The Roughnecks are one of the four teams that basically keeps the league afloat. That said, Edmonton actually beat it's average attendance with 7690 on Friday. That doesn't often happen in minor league sports because you lose your season ticket base and you usually lose group sales.

Code:
TEAM YESTERDAY TOTAL OPENINGS AVERAGE
Colorado 133,091 9 14,787
Buffalo 128,847 9 14,316
Calgary 104,785 9 11,642
Toronto 90,102 9 10,011
Minnesota 78,291 9 8,699
Rochester 63,465 9 7,051
Edmonton 59,207 9 6,578
New England 35,234 9 3,914
Vancouver 33,610 9 3,734
TOTAL 726,632 81 8,970
The Oil Kings drew similar numbers 2013-14 - for a championship team - but again trailed the Hitmen pretty badly. Their total was good for 3rd in the WHL though; Calgary first.

Ultimately, Calgary appears to be more of a winter sports town, Edmonton summer.

Edmonton Rush lacrosse team may be looking for new home

http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...302/story.html

“It doesn’t look very bright. It appears that it’s coming to an end,” said Edmonton Rush owner Bruce Urban. “It’s sad; it’s heart breaking. I thought we had better value for the city, but apparently I was wrong.”

Urban’s words come just before the Rush plays Game 2 in the National Lacrosse League’s West Division final on Saturday against the Roughnecks in Calgary. The Rush won the first game last Friday before a crowd of around 7,000 at Rexall Place.

But winning and putting together a good team — an exciting good team — apparently aren’t enough.

“We’re second-last in the league in attendance,” said Urban, who admits to being more than a little jealous of teams like the Colorado Mammoth and Buffalo Bandits, who attract 16,000 fans to every game, or Calgary, which averages 12,000.

That would be a big financial hit to the Roughnecks as well since it would inflate their travel costs.

If not for just adding the AHL team, I always thought Winnipeg would be a good spot for an NLL club.

Also of note in the article is how much of an a-hole Katz is being wrt the new arena.

Edit: Apparently Minnesota is in trouble as well, and we all know the disaster that is Vancouver/Langley will end at some point. Calgary and Colorado could end up an island unto themselves.

that is really too bad, they have assembled a great team up there with maybe the best player in the game...... a good value product and they cant make it fly? I really don't know why this sport hasn't caught on, very entertaining.....

I for one am not surprised that Edmontonians don't know what to do when they have a winning franchise in their city....

I wonder if it is an education thing.

If you don't know the game it can appear chaotic.

The irony is that a guy on /r/edmonton was holding onto the whole "city of champions" thing from the 80s and suggested that people don't follow the Rush because they don't win.

I would like to thank #17 Curtis Dickson.

He was part of my kid's school last week and today.

He made a couple lacrosse fan's in his teaching.

Good luck tomorrow.

Huge shame there. Especially after 11 years. They seemed stable otherwise.

And, to go back to Bruce Urban's lamenting how much better attendance is in Calgary than Edmonton - Looking at the available seats on Ticketmaster for tonight, I'd guess they've already sold 12k+.
