He won't sign less than 7 year contract. If Flames won't sign it, he and his agent knows another team will.

I personally let that other team take that risk than. My historical data is telling me 4 years of that deal carry way too much risk to allocate a 6 million dollar cap hit.

Insulting and disgusting offer. The Flames could get way more than that if they moved Gio. Gardiner is okay but a bottom pairing D needing major work in his own end if he wants to be a top 4 guy.
leafs wouldn't do it but I would want to swP firsts with them plus Gardiner to even consider it. With Toronto entering a rebuild trading a 4th overall pick, and 24 year old Dman for a 15th overall pick and a 31 year old Dman does not make any sense for them.

So yeah if the contract is more than 4 years I would really start wanting to get that cap number down.

I haven't read the entire thread so this point may have been mentioned already.
Giordano was born in 1983. After his year in the KHL, he came back to the Flames for the 2008/09 season. He would have been 25/26 for that season. This isn't a player thats played 80 game seasons in the NHL since being an 18 year old. Take Ekblad for example, by the time he is 26 he will have played 8 full-time seasons in the NHL. He did have some pro games before 2008/09 but the point is that he doesn't have the wear and tear on the body that someone playing full-time in the NHL since 18 would have.

Why are people acting like Giordano is constantly injured? He's had a torn bicep in a freak accident and a broken foot from a blocked shot. It's not like he's got a glass knee or a history of concussions or anything.

Yes it does, they are going to dump Dion and Kessel for whatever asap, Gio is a TO boy and might be a Norris candidate so the leafs fans will go nuts. We might have to eat a bad contract in the trade somewhere but I bet we could come out of the whole thing with Gardiner, a solid pick in 2016 and some more offence. Maybe throw a goalie into the mix....Reimer?

You are right, they have nothing until they get here and into our system. I would guess that most players want out of TO so bad they would go to Edmonton given the chance.

If Giordano were to be traded to Toronto, the discussion would start with Morgan Rielly+2016 1st. Your 'proposal' is so off base it's not even funny, it comes off as a genuine troll job. Fact is, Toronto and Calgary are terrible trading partners, so there's no point in discussing any potential major trade between the two teams. A rebuilding team doesn't trade their captain and best player (who is one year from UFA) to another rebuilding team. It just doesn't make sense. If Giordano were to be traded, it would be to a top 10 team looking for the final piece of the puzzle to win the cup, and he would net a bounty of trade assets... not garbage like Gardiner and a mid pick. Your proposal is like half of what Brayden freaking Coburn was traded for FFS.

Garbage like Gardiner? Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about. Sorry, but it's true. Good thing I didn't mention the fact that JayBo would also thrive in the new system.

Compared to Giordano, Gardiner is garbage. He's like the opposite of Giordano. He's soft, terrible in own end and not even that good at what he's supposed to be good at, putting up points. Massive pass, wouldn't even trade one of our three 2nd round picks for him.
Also, JayBo >>> Gardiner and I wouldn't want JayBo either, been there done that. Gardiner is a very poor man's JayBo.

Five years at 8.5 I think...
Gio wants to be in calgary... You just want to offer something reasonably fair and I think he would sign, even a slightly shorter deal

Well, I'm glad you are not handling our drafts and trades cuz you would have passed on Brodie, Johnny, Bouma, Russell etc. etc and would have traded Backlund by now.
It's all about players that fit into a system...stop looking in the rear view mirror and basing a players true talent because they happen to be on a s**t team with no sense of direction, you know, the way the Flames used to be.

Nice one. The "I'm sure glad that you aren't GM of the Flames". That's clever. Really.
You can also use "You obviously don't watch Hockey". It's a doozie.
Welcome to CP.

Kinda rich coming from someone who just suggested that we trade Gio for Gardiner and a 2nd.

Have you...
have you ever watched Jake Gardiner play?
Have you ever watched Mark Giordano play?
Gio is 31, not 38.
