Default Mad Max: Fury Road

I think this deserves it's own thread. Fury Road is getting some monster reviews, sitting at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes with 143 reviews counted (only a single negative one listed)

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mad_max_fury_road/

Critics tossing around terms like instant classic, makes Thunderdome and Road Warrior look timid in comparison. I was pumped for this movie after watching the trailer, but now I'm damn near giddy with anticipation

Can't wait. Been following the production of this since they started filming almost three years ago in the summer of 2012!

It will be no different than the original Mad Max movies that starred Mel Gibson. Special effects and all will still make this a favourite of film goers.

Yeaaaah, I am so hyped for this movie! I can't believe it has taken almost 15 years for Miller to finally get this thing made. I remember back in 2001 there was a ton of talk about it coming back with Mel in the role, but I think the WTC stuff put a lid on it for some reason? I can't really remember.

Regardless, Tom Hardy is a great choice for Max and this movie looks amazing. I am glad we're getting a "summer blockbuster" for adults instead of another superhero movie for 10 year olds.

Tons of fun. Basically a two hour wicked chase scene. A lot better than the super hero crap we are being force fed these days.
8.5/10

It was a spectacular ride. Every single bit of it worked for me, and the choreography in the action scenes was marvelous. I was shaking on the edge of my seat through much of the scenes, the chaotic battle scene in the dust storm (nuclear fallout?) was stunning. It truly is an instant classic, I came out of it thinking it's one of the best action movies ever made, and likely the best of the last five years.

It's also a great movie for the female viewer as well, as it does have many feminist overtones. So for those who are being pushed out to see Pitch Perfect 2 this weekend, try and get her to see Max as well. It deserves (and better) to do well at the box office, so we can get more sequels.

So is this a remake or is it #4?

I haven't seen any of the older ones. I'll go see this though, looks awesome. At it is pissing of the men's rights activist losers, so that's another positive.

Seeing it tomorrow.

It's supposed to be a true sequel (so, after Tina Turner-Madness), but being 30 years since the last movie, I would guess Miller wrote it to more or less stand alone, with maybe a couple bones as throwbacks to the older films.

Also the MRA squealing over this movie is amazing. "But but but Eve Ensler!!"

I mentioned to a colleague at the office that Avengers did well to get released ahead of this because in an action comparison it is no contest. (and I liked Avengers).

Very well done, characters were actually developed to a certain degree. Hoult, Theron and the
Spoiler!
were well written in as close to being over the top as the story demanded. Surprising that some of the non-actors were able to do their tasks competently. Models, pro wrestlers, etc. Thought Hoult and Theron in particular were awesome

I would also suggest that the Mad Max character is collateral to the story and your witnessing the events through him if you will. It's consistent with the Road Warrior and Thunderdome movies to that extent (as compared to a James Bond movie where he becomes the center of the story).

Very well done. I expect it to do very well at the box office.

It would be #4.

But it could easily stand alone.

If you haven't seen any of the previous ones, then try to catch Road Warrior (which is the best of the three) before hand to set up the post-apocalyptic world and the descent of humankind.

That article discusses just how disgusting these people are.

Just saw it. That is one of the best action movies I've ever seen, and George Miller absolutely elevates his franchise a whole new notch.

Pay little attention to the plot, just go in it for the action and you will not be disappointed. 10/10 will watch again!

I don't want to pump the hype but I haven't been buzzing like this leaving a theatre in a long long time.

I'm so thankful. I have been looking forward to this for a while but wasn't sure how it would go.

Can't wait to see it.

Saw the 10:50 show at Country Hills today.

Absolutely fantastic. Wish every action film had less padding and more explosions.

Amazing movie, just awesome. It was a smart action movie if I can get away with that. The action was stunning but that wouldn't mean nearly as much without the stellar costumes/make up/etc and the mind blowing cinematography. The barren desert wasteland to the electric dust storm to the wet lands, all juxtaposed to each other but all gorgeous.

The plot was simple but I disagree with the above that you should just ignore it, it was quintessential Mad Max. Loner guy wandering the wasteland gets caught up in a situation, situation plays out, off he goes. Perfect. The girls being selected as breeders trying to escape one of the coolest looking villains I've seen on screen, was great. Charlize Theron killed it as a strong action lead as well.

The closest recent movie I can compare it to is Dredd. Both visually stunning movies that are brilliantly stylized. Simple straightforward plots but done at a high level. Unlike Dredd though this one seems to be catching fire at the theatre.

10/10, really can't wait to see it again.

Absolutely frenetic is the word I would use to describe this.

Went to see it in avx at Chinook.

Very little dialog, one minor love scene.

Enjoyable summer flick
