It was a somewhat lost story in all the comebacks. Ramo played terrible, sliding too far out and letting up too many rebounds and then Hiller came in. Hiller let in goals from odd angles or through him. Rinse and repeat.

But then each would spell the other and stand on their head for a stretch of games, again, oft forgotten in what the team as a whole were doing in winning games they shouldn't have, in some cases.

Who knows, just like Game 6 Vancouver, ANA would've gotten a couple quick ones and then the Hiller stands on his head for the rest of Game 6 and manages to pull it out in Game 7 and everyone would want Hiller....the way its gone all year.

I think whichever is kept, the 1 and 1a system works pretty well with either of those guys, not sure you'd want them as full time backup.
This is what I was trying but failed to say

Contracts suggest it will be Hiller.

I would prefer Ramo.

But I don't think both are here because I doubt they want both Ortio and Gillies in Stockton.

Agree only 1 can stay.

If Ramo wants to stay and you can get a decent price for Hiller, I think you keep Ramo.

If Ramo wants more than 2 years, or wants to play hard ball on terms, I think you just ride Hillers existing contract

Ok... which game?

Vancouver
Game 1: Hiller 60 minutes
Game 2: Hiller for the first 54 minutes
Game 3: Hiller 60 minutes
Game 4: Hiller 60 minutes
Game 5: Hiller 60 minutes
Game 6: Hiller pulled

Anaheim
Game 1: Hiller pulled
Game 2: Ramo 60 minutes
Game 3: Ramo 60+ minutes
Game 4: Ramo 60 minutes
Game 5: Ramo 60+ minutes

Hiller was pulled 3 times, Ramo wasn't pulled once.

I prefer Ramo to Hiller, but i'm weary of committing big dollars to Ramo. Ultimately, he has a real problem with losing the net. I don't know if its something he can correct at this stage in his career. I wouldn't mind a similar contract that Hiller got, maybe stretch it to 3 years, but anything more in terms of dollars and term, and i'd pass.

Ortio seems to be a better all around goalie and has greater potential than both the veterans.

Don't know about anyone else, but for me I just find that Hiller has made more mistakes with his puck-handling, and is shakier when it comes to his glove hand and freezing the puck.

But I won't be too upset if Hiller stays next season. As long as there is a 1A/1B system I think the Flames are in good shape with either guy.

Hiller. Way more comfortable with him in net.

It's been Ramo for me for the majority of the season, and the playoffs didn't change that at all. Re-sign Ramo, trade Hiller.

Ramo if he can be signed for a reasonable amount, he's younger than Hiller.

Tough call. I Don't know. My gut says I'd rather have Ramo. Hiller was, however, great for a few stretches. I like Ramo, I think. Goddammit, I don't know......

I'd prefer to go into the pre-season with Hiller, Ramo, and Ortio under Flames contract...but I'm not sure that will be possible anymore.

The biggest concern is what lingering effects exist from Ortio's injury. Ramo/Hiller (or Hiller/Ramo) are a solid combination and I would love to fall back on the two of them if Ortio isn't ready to play in the NHL full time; Gillies will need AHL time to get ready for pro level schedules either way so the question really falls on whether Ortio is a secondary goaltender yet. If so, then I wouldn't mind having a Ramo/Ortio combination...Hiller is a great goaltender but I think the Flames can work around Ramo's eccentricities as a goaltender (challenging the shooter even if it's unwise, odd rebounds, wanders) more than Hiller's (puck playing issues, has a stiff glove hand virtually incapable of gloving shots dead, plays an old goaltending style and doesn't jump up from his butterfly very quickly).

Of course, Ramo might price himself out of a contract with the Flames...I could see him asking for 4+ given his saviour-esc tendencies during the playoffs. Came in for game 6 against the Canucks and took over the Ducks series for Hiller. Anything around 4 might work as ~9 for goaltending is a bit high but the Flames could afford it for a year...but much higher and it might be time to just let him go and roll the die on Ortio.

I hope we can sign Ramo, but I'm thinking they'll be some demand for him in the off season. Not alot mind you, but some interest.

I feel like Treliving will try signing Ramo and go with the same tandem next year.

Can someone remind me how Ortio's contract works next year?

In my opinion Hiller has higher highs and lower lows. Ramo is more consistent.

Hiller is staying and Ramo is going though. Ortio should be ready next season. I have a good feeling about him and Gillies.

Ortio has to clear waivers to be assigned to the AHL IIRC.

It is possible the Flames could sneak him by like the Canucks did with Markstrom this season, but who knows.

We've seen the best Hiller has to offer, he can be great at times but then completely fall apart at others. Watching him in Anaheim and now in Calgary his playstyle is set and unlikely to change, so what you see is what you get. Ramo on the other hand has continued to improve with the Flames year after year, and just prior to his injury late in the season and then in the playoffs he played spectacular. He still makes mistakes, but unlike Hiller I see his game continuing to evolve and he's just entering his prime

When everything else is a wash, go with the younger guy
