Thrashers and Sharks swing a deal......
The Atlanta Thrashers and San Jose Sharks swung a deal on Tuesday afternoon that saw Atlanta trade LW Jochen Hecht, a 1st round pick (Florida) in the 2007 entry draft, and $2M for the 2006-2007 season in exchange for LW Tomas Holmstrom and D Andrew Alberts.
"We are extremely pleased with this deal. Jochen Hecht is a good hockey player but his $10 M max contract previously signed by the previous Thrashers GM was too much for the Thrashers organization at this time. The direction we are going in did not allow for Jochen to be in our plans with that contract. We wish him the best in San Jose."
"We are thrilled we are recieving a top forward in Tomas Holmstrom in return as well as a good future defensman in Andrew Alberts. We feel we have taken a step forward today in freeing cap space and adding two good players to our team in the process. This is a large step forward in the Thrashers organization."
