Does Bob Hartley win the Jack Adams?

With the overall success of this team and where expectations were at the start of the year Bob seems to be the clear favorite in my mind to win the Jack Adams this year. Here are some other potential candidates:

Jack Capuano: New York Islanders.
Paul Maurice: Winnipeg Jets.
Peter Laviolette: Nashville Predators.
Jon Cooper: Tampa Bay Lightning.

What are your thoughts CP does Bob win it this year?

He should win it hands down.

Once the Flames made the playoffs, the debate was 100% over IMO.

Obviously a little biased, but I think Bob would have been the favourite even with a healthy Giordano. The fact that they made it without him makes him a lock in my mind. The voting shouldn't even be close.

no one got more out of his group, composed largely of guys with zero to little experience, than Hartley. Maurice is probably the closest but he still had vets like Ladd, Little, Buff, Wheeler etc to lean on. We came in with a few vets, but largely relied on players that at the start of the year weren't used to any of the responsibilities and competition they were faced with. Bob fast tracked them to being bonafide NHL regulars.

Hartley is the right choice.

Bias aside I don't think there's any reason why he shouldn't. He's taken a team that many said would be the worst team in the league and has them in the second round.

Playoffs have nothing to do with the awards (other than the Conn Smythe, of course). The voting was done before the playoffs started.

I didn't say they did. And had the Flames lost to the Canucks I would still think he deserved it for getting them into the playoffs with almost 100 points when they were suppose to be terrible.

For me, it comes down to the following:

Capuano - guided NYI to a big rebound year
Maurice - revived Jets, battled through lots of injuries
Laviolette - took bubble team to elite (though stretch run likely takes him out of the running)
Trotz - has the capitals playing great, recognition from past years overdue
Hartley - took a projected lottery team to playoffs, outcoached many of his colleagues and brought a rookie laden squad along fast.


Hartley has to win this IMO - especially after the Predators slumped to end the season.
It won't be a total slam dunk, as there is good group of coaches, but Hartley had to coach this group along - everyone talks about his practices, and look at the style of game that flies in the face of advanced stats, because he designed it to work the best with what he had

No he doesn't. The "finalists" that we see announced for awards are just the top 3 vote getters. The voters can pick anyone they want.
