Not an issue, as evident from the Canucks reactions (or lack there of) after the goal. Although for a second I was expecting a cheap shot as Ferland headed to the bench.

I'd have missed from that angle. People would say I did the decent thing.

But it would eat me up.

Of course you score that - you train all your life to put the puck in the net and stop it going in yours.

Cmon...guys there were 3 seconds left. Not enough time for the puck to get to the other end of the ice. The game was over, and the goal wasn't ensuring a win. There was definitely an element of insult here. So we shouldn't be debating whether or not this was necessary for the win, but if Ferland was justified in the insult.

Quite frankly, Bieksa, a vet, calling out a rookie the way he did in the media was uncalled for. Personally, I would have preferred it if Ferland had been the bigger person, but I completely understand why he did what he did.

I think it was Daryl Sutter who wants said if you don't want them to run up the score go and stop them.....and it was being run up against the flames IIRC

Remember that Hoodie tossed on the ice in game 7 of 04? That game should have been a 3-1 final with an Iginla hat trick.

That right there says run the score up against the Canucks forever. Good on Ferland for putting it home. With the series he had he deserved a freebie goal.

Let me get this straight: We are not supposed to score goals in a Ice Hockey game now? What?

This sounds like something Don Cherry would make a big deal out of.

If canucks felt insulted, Im glad they did. We get to score 7, not 6 goals.

I know there was no time left for the Canucks to mount a comeback or even get it down the ice with so many seconds left, but I think it was right of Ferland to do it. These are our hated rivals. If it's a regular season game against a likeable team like Columbus or something, I can understand not running up the score. Even a playoff series against a team we are neutral towards like say Nashville, etc.

But these are the Canucks. And after Bieksa's comments, good for Ferland to really rub the salt in.

some excellent posts.

it isn't as if "Ferkland or whatever his name is" skated by the canucks bench and pointed at bieksa or something like that. if the game was over, miller should have been in the net. he wasn't. so game on.

honestly, Michael Ferland was just taking care of the "dumb dumbs".

It's the Canucks. Any chance you get to rub more salt into the wounds you do it!

It was just so fitting that the series should end with Ferland pounding it into the empty net.

I kinda winced when I saw him on his horse rushing down into the zone after the puck given the time and score, but once he committed to going after the puck the way he was, yeah, you have to put that puck in. Eating the puck or going for a skate with it is extra insulting.

Had the shoe been on the other foot, I would have assumed the opposing team would score on the Flames and saw nothing wrong with it. There is ZERO to be angry about from the Canuck's perspective with the exception of having a breakdown (a few actually) leading to 2 empty net goals.

What would have been bad is if Ferland started celebrating like a rookie Oiler pretending it was the Game 7 overtime cup clinching goal. He didn't do that. There is no story here.

The game is 60 minutes. Not 59 minutes and 58 seconds, not 9 minutes and 42 seconds, 60 minutes.

Was it disrespectful to run up the score to start the game? Should Vancouver have sat back at that point? The answer to both question is no.

Vancouver should have kept their foot on the gas and not let Calgary back in. The fact that Calgary found a way to come back doesn't mean they let up once they have the lead to be nice.

If anyteam knows that the game isn't over until it's over it's the Calgary Flames.

Play hard until the final buzzer. Period.
