Sven was also invisible defensively last game. I noticed him just skating aimlessly in his own zone , not picking up a man and generally useless.

A few sven defenders on the Nucks board are already complaining about ice time and line mates.

That game did the same thing to Canucks fans that his junior emergency call-up did to we Flames fans. "OMG, SO MUCH SKILL!!!!!!!" Except in both cases, no-pressure, no-responsibility situations. It's the only environment in which he has thrived at the pro level.

As someone else mentioned, Baertschi was simply occupying a roster spot.

When he has the puck, he still looks pretty dangerous, but he lacks hockey sense and can't seem to make good plays.

I wouldn't say he was terrible aside from one blatantly bad decision when instead of chipping the puck out to clear the zone, he threw the puck back in deep (seriously, wtf). The real issue is that he just has zero intensity. Last night was his 8-Mile moment and he choked.

When it comes to his peers (Horvat, Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Jooris, Ferland), he looks far behind them. At the start of next season he will be 23 years old, so it's not looking promising.

Sooo....

2GP 0G 0A 0PTs +1. I'm not sure he even got any shots on goal in two games.

The definition of irrelevant.

Yeah its pretty clear now that Treliving ' s asset management at the deadline was spot on. Baertschi never was going to beat out the other guys in his age range for a job. Him wanting a trade was a blessing in disguise as it forced the organization to move. Today I'm pretty pleased with that move.

We were SELLERS at the deadline. We dumped Beartschi and Glencross for picks and we're still in the second round of the playoffs.

That is fantastic!!

From the Canucks board. Hands up if any of this sounds familiar

Quote:
He's not exactly a lightweight at 190 lbs but I feel another 5-10 lbs would make all the difference to his ability to fight for the right to use his skill. If he has any sense he will get a good trainer in the off season and ramp up his muscle strength.

Willie didn't use him right and barely played him. Hopefully he gets a more fair shot next year.

Baertschi was picked up because he is a skill guy and he was a bargain. He needs some development and will get some more in Utica (they're still playing) and has a better chance at developing with the Canucks starting at the beginning of the season when the playing is easier. It was a calculated risk on Bennings part and needs some time and a good summers training. I think he'll be fine by Christmas.

As I suspected, Sven was not a difference maker in this series. I hope he saw what the Flames were trying to sell him on last night. Because that's how winning is done. #NeverQuit.

That trade really does look good now as they way he played for the Canucks wouldn't cut it on the Flames so they would have been forced into a situation next season where they had to play him or trade him and it's doubtful he get's anywhere near a 2nd round pick in return in that situation where teams know you don't have a spot for him. It's simply hard to imagine even with another offseason that he ever gets enough jam in his game to become a regular on this team. It's unfortunate but maybe this team should stay clear of Swiss born players after the last couple have crashed and burned for us.

Sven is such a polarizing prospect. He has undeniable skill, and he definitely leaves you saying "Wow" at times when that skill shows through and you start thinking that he is going to develop into something really special. Then you see him just continue to be ineffective (and IMO, downright lazy) with his compete level, and it makes you think he is just going to bust outright.

Glad he is on the Canucks and let that fanbase argue about him. To come into the playoffs and give you that kind of an effort level - and against the team that traded him away no less - makes me really believe that this kid just won't make it in the long-term.

Well played, Mr. Treliving.

Yup. The Canucks (unlike the Flames) will have room for him in the lineup to start the season. They need to take the risk.

And I wouldn't be surprised if he has some early season success in Oct/Nov when the vets coast and the young guys dominate.

But by Christmas, they will be debating what to do with him.

Well played, Mr. Treliving.
Even if another forward went down Granlund would slot in ahead of Sven. Byron is also injured, and Shore is ready to go too. Even the Wolf would be more useful if a guy like Jooris or Bollig went down.

Sven had no place and neither did his attitude.

Nah. He believes we won because of bad calls by the refs and goalie interference. He definitely belongs in Vancouver, but he doesn't have half the talent to match the attitude.

I'm certainly glad with the way things have worked out, but it's much too early to draw any conclusions on his career...let's see what he does next season.

I noticed between whistles last night Baertschi went to line up beside Wideman and as he skated by Wideman gave him a little shot. I like to think that wasn't accidental or a coincidence.

I tried to boo Sven when he had the puck last night but there wasn't much opportunity to do so.

Like the starting goalie that took us to the playoffs and a defenseman who showed some real flashes of skill before getting injured.

Seriously...where do you come up with these things?

BTW, who the heck are you even talking about?
