Their team is good and definitely has a bright future, but I think the city itself is only a notch above Edmonton on the "no good" scale...

Meh... people who haven't spent a lot of time there can say that. But Winnipeg is a jewel. Amazing hot summers, beautiful beaches close by, incredible music, art, and theatre scene, great pub/bar scene, friendly people, cool artsy neighbourhoods, Winnipeg is a jewel.

Edmonton is crap. But The 'Peg is a beauty.

There's quite the redemption story brewing potentially if the Flames do face the Ducks.

I'm sure Hiller's going to be extra focused on beating them and proving he's better than the kids that replaced him.

Could be a great story.

Excuses. every team has had injuries behind the scene. they weren't that significant if they were playing with them.

Mosquitos the size of helicopters, coldest winters on the planet for a city over 500,000 (shoot maybe 100,000) higher than average crime rate...

There's things to like about any city, and sometimes I am too hard on the Peg (because I've been there so damn much!) but a jewel? Heheh, no. I was remarking after my last visit there just over a year ago I'd never return. An exasperated joke comment of course, but the sentiment is there.

I'll give you the beaches and the friendly people. I'll give you at one time they had a vibrant music scene, but not so much anymore. Everything else you can do or get in Calgary and often a better version. Unless you really like the ballet. They of course have a world class ballet too. Not sure that's much of a draw for anyone here though.

And that's not even to brag about Cowtown, as we can definitely use more arts and culture. But calling it a jewel is a massive stretch. It's a mediumish size city with no real must see attraction. Besides the ballet, again. And the mosquitoes.

My cousin from Winnipeg was here last summer for the first time in a very long time. Seems our family always went out there, and his rarely came here. Anyway, he mentioned how much Calgary had grown, while Winnipeg had stagnated. He mentioned how there were so many things to do here compared to back home. And his exact words at one point were 'it's nice to be in a downtown where things are actually going on'. There were two small festivals that day, and we didn't even plan for that. We were just downtown to meet with other family that was in town for a funeral that had occured days prior.

All that said I was hoping the Jets would win. And not just because it would help us out with the Ducks if we won. I wanted it for their fans. I was hoping for even just one home win for them today! I wanted it for the city. And I thought it would be cool to have another all Canadian matchup in round two.

I agree with not wanting to play the Wild. The Blues are Jekyll and Hyde and they are vulnerable, especially with their goaltending. Flames-Blues would be excellent.

That would have been cool.

But let this be a lesson to you and to anyone who is easily duped into believing that the Winnipeg Jets are a NHL franchise in more than name only. What you hoped for could not happen, because that would have required the Jets to win a playoff round, which would require them to win four games against the same team in April.

Such things just do not happen.

Don't question it. It's cosmic.

The Jets gave it all they could but the Ducks were the superior team.

Customary song for the team that gets eliminated.

Pathetic.
No idea why everyone has to treat the Jets fan like a special needs kid getting a chance to play and take a shot in a high school basketball game. The fans are loud... good for them but honestly who cares most crowds are loud (not at the level of the Jets.. but close enough). Half of the teams that lose in the playoffs will get cheered off the ice in their last game.

Good on Jet fans in cheering the team even after they lost the game and series. I was hoping for the Jets to even play Game 6 in Winnipeg but I guess it is not meant to be. They committed too many boneheaded penalties especially by their supposed to be leaders Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd.

I am not making fun of the Jets or anything but I was just laughing when the media especially in TSN like Jeff O'Neill predicted that the Jets are going all the way to the Finals. Didn't they think the Jets were playing one of the best team in the NHL? Yes upset is a possibility.

For whatever reason, the Blues owned the Flames all year, handing them their worst defeats, give or take a Pens game.

The Wild are good too though, and I think you ignore the first half of their season when assessing them. They are as good as their second half indicates, making them a real threat to go all the way.

I'd be happiest going Ducks, then Hawks, frankly.

So much for the Jets being "built for the playoffs". I was hoping they would wear out the Ducks a little bit but so much for that.

Assuming we can take out Vancouver, hopefully a long break between series means that Anaheim comes out flat and we can steal game 1...

The Jets played well, just not well enough to close out the game. Anaheim is just like us, they know when to turn it on when it really matters. In fact, they can do it a lot better than us.

As someone who grew up in Manitoba, I have to correct you here. Winnipeg is a sesspool of grossness and filth. If Canada were to get an enema, they would stick it in Winnipeg. That city is awful.

Win-Gina-Ton. Same city, three different locations.

As a former Pegger, and having many friends in that building last night, I was glad to see the Jets back in the playoffs as the fans really deserved it. And the fans certainly didn't disappoint.

However, the way the media - and pretty much everyone - have been treating them like, as you say, 'a special needs kid getting the chance to play' has been so nauseating that it has pretty much ruined this experience for me. It has, at the very least, put somewhat of a sour taste to it.

It's too bad. The fans have been great.

Stop treating them like they're children.

Winnipeg needs to stop the whiteout. It worked when teams wore white home jerseys. Now it just looks like everyone there was cheering for Anaheim. Everyone start wearing blue or something there. The white doesn't work anymore.
