should note that Ferland's mom was playing the role of Lack's father last night.....perhaps if Miller plays, his wife will get more screen time to promote her brand......

Flames seemed to rob Vancouver of thier will last night

Kyle Wotherspoon?

Much appreciate these write ups - gives me time to digest after the madness of the game itself. Thanks again!

Great write-up

I would like to add a tip of the cap and a slow clap for Mr. Matt Stajan - been a beauty in this series

100%. Stajan has found his perfect niche on that line and he's absolutely excelling. Got to say that might be the best 3rd line we've ever had (though Otto with Patterson and McLelland was pretty great too).

I haven't been the biggest Stajan fan since he's joined the Flames but I agree he has been great so far this series, also the best faceoff guy in the series and only Flame above 50%.

That delay of game penalty late in the 2nd didn't cost us so he gets a pass on that.

That delay of game penalty is the perfect example of why they need to make that call discretionary. Just seems silly to me if there is time and space but a player gets a bouncing or rolling puck.

Why? It's not about intent. He delayed the game from a careless clear of the zone. I still think the rule serves the two intended purposes: increase powerplays and scoring (powerplays are at an all time low) and decrease the number of pucks leaving the surface causing the game to slow down. There's more turnovers because guys are scared to fire it off the glass too high or flip it out.

Why does intent matter?

Intent may or may not matter, but there is such a thing as making the punishment fit the crime. No way clearing the puck over the glass is a comparable infraction to roughing, elbowing, cross-checking, tripping, hooking, or interference. As they say on Sesame Street, one of these things is not like the others.

Clearing the puck over the glass delays the game in the same way, and to the same extent, as icing. It would be logical if the punishment were the same for both: faceoff in the defensive zone, and the infringing team cannot change skaters.

The only reason it's a penalty in one case and not the other is that the league instituted the minor for puck over glass before it thought of the current icing rule. At the time, the smallest punishment that the officials could hand out was a minor penalty. This was clearly disproportionate to the offence, but they did not have any way of making change for two minutes, so to speak. Now they do have a way, and the league looks silly for not using it.

I disagree. Take the automatic delay of game penalty out and we will see a lot of not so accidental pucks going over the glass again like we did in the past.
