If there's one thing I know, it's that the best way to handle a mentally fragile prospect is to toss him into a brutal playoff series against the team he demanded a trade from ... in a game at their barn.
Well done Canucks.

I am not a Baertschi fan, but the kid does have some skill. He is a high-risk, high-maintenance prospect, and like you said, a bad showing could hurt him. A good showing on the other hand could move his confidence ahead light years.
I'm not sure the Canucks want to use now to make or break him though.
That's the point. You have a kid with confidence issues...
Hmm, how about we call him up, in the playoffs, against his former team, in their barn!
The Canucks are looking to a guy who couldn't make the Flames at training camp, was nowhere near to being an automatic call-up and couldn't stick with the Flames when he did get the call.
It's like if we signed and dressed Jordan Schroeder expecting him to light it up against the Canucks.
I think it would be E=NG level stupid for Desjardins to put him in tonight, on the road. Game 5 maybe, but you're literally throwing him into the playoff fire by dressing him tonight.

It'd be bloody fantastic. Vancouver is run over by a freight train in Ferland and can't seem to find an answer in terms of intensity and physicality. Them throwing Baertschi in would be epic.
I think this is probably no different than us calling players up just to keep around the team during the playoffs. It's actually a pretty smart thing to do.
...a pretty unsmart thing to do would be to dress him for tonight's game.

I think Sven would probably be similar to how Vrbata was just throwing the puck away last game. It might take him a few shifts of getting hit, but he would be coughing up the puck a lot.
