The thing is, an 18 year old player playing his first string of NHL games in the playoffs (and playing well) is something to talk about. It's absolutely newsworthy.
A player's dorky dad watching the game in the crowd is not newsworthy or something to focus on.

I sat next to a group of Canucks fans at the game and honestly it was pretty fun. They were respectful, didn't say anything profane or inappropriate, cheered when the Canucks scored and kept to themselves when the Flames scored. Exactly the way how you hope opposing fans would be at a game. I heard about the fight on the concourse through CP here after the game, but didn't see it. It's amazing how one bad instance and one bad apple can really put a negative view on everything.

When you are an opposing fan and your team loses really it comes down to two choices. You can get riled up and want to fight all the hecklers, or you shut up, put your head down and leave.
What does an opposing fan expect? Not to be heckled? That is insane. You don't show up with different coloured jerseys and not expect some banter.

Yeah that Nuck fan sounded like a moron - genuinely surprised at the heckling. Duh! And clearly sounded like the kind of person that would just take a swing at someone.
I was at game 2 in Van. Fully expected to get heckled the entire game - and was. Had fun with it and heckled back - carefully, I obviously didn't want to upset anyone and start a scene. But it was fun and a few of them even got me laughing.

Definitely, I've gone to Detriot wearing a Flames jersery, and even then as a teenage girl I had EVERY type of person heckling and booing me. Children even. You just smile and laugh and relax, it's just a game, and people have the right to cheer for their team and boo yours. Doesn't warrant a physical altercation.

In regards to all this getting heckled stuff, I'd say I agree, you head into someone else's barn wearing opposing colours, you must be prepared to get heckled and booed ect....
However, I don't actually think it's ok to heckle nor do I think the "you just have to take it" applies if the heckling moves beyond people razzing you about your hockey team of choice. Fan's aren't players, they aren't out there competing on the ice. Doesn't matter if you are wearing a Nucks jersey in the Dome, or a Flames jersey at Rogers Centre, people shouldn't be able to say something to you they wouldn't say, nor should you have to take abuse you wouldn't tolerate if someone just said it to you if you were walking down the street or in a bar on a regular Friday night.
Don't get me wrong, likely the best move is to put your head down and get the hell out of there in the opposing rink, but the "expectation" or what's appropriate in regards to heckling other fans should never extend beyond the "your team sucks" "your players suck" type of thing. You start saying personal things to someone simply because you don't like the team they cheer for, then you are a clown and are likely only doing it cause you feel safe in the fact that there are 20K other fans in the building who will likely back you up.

I used to live in Vancouver and used to go to most of the Flames games there. Never went to a playoff game, but in the regular season, I have seen lots of heckling of Flames fans and the odd case of violence. The worst thing that ever happened to me personally was that I had some jackass behind me keep spilling a little beer on me and acting like it was an accident.
I always got in and out of the arena fine, but if someone starts mouthing off, there is always going to be someone who will be happy to escalate things. It's the wonders of alcohol usually. I did experience bathroom heckling before though and it is really annoying.
If you are an opposing fan, just do your best to be respectful and let the heckling slide off you. I am willing to bet that we didn't hear the whole story here.

I want Stajan to switch jersey numbers with Bennett for the next game. Just to remind Canuck fans.

No kidding. If you're such a shrinking violet that you can't handle "Canucks suck" or "durr Sedin sisters durrrr" without losing your own mind, then you really shouldn't go to the arena. (and likewise for any Flames fan in Vancouver) Yes, it's childish, and yes, every fanbase does it. As long as they keep it impersonal, just let it roll.

Canuck fans were less d-baggy than usual because they were badly outnumbered compared to a regular season game....the ass kicking helped too

We had a few Canucks fans around us last night and they were all pretty good. One woman kept standing up, turning to the crowd and saying 'What?!' with her arms stretched out, like she was trying to bait the crowd into heckling her, daring someone to say something...even though no one was saying anything to her. It was actually kinda funny because I think she was drunk, and when she was leaving she forgot her bag of merch. from Fanattic, and someone ran up to to give it to her and she got right in his face. Other Canucks fans were mock-apologizing for her and everyone had a good laugh. There was definitely heckling, but it didn't go too far and I think everyone had a good time... except the Canucks fans at the end of the game

Found this comment on youtube(last night's highlights video):
Actually, my point is that I am just tired/frustrated of the CBC commentators talking/praising about Sam Bennett (and all the Flames' rosters instead of our Canucks team) the entire games. They always try to include "18 years old Sam Bennett"... "Here's the 18 year old Sam Bennett"...or "Sam Bennett, the 18 years old" every single minutes that kid tries to do something. Hence, I asked: "anyone know how old is Sam Bennett?" cause I believe I am not the only one that's tired of hearing the word/number 'eighteen' or '18'. '
