Yeah, at least with a warning/fine, he's not a first time offender.

Street justice is best justice anyways. Hopefully Flames can do it without taking penalties.

I'm in agreement that none of them should have been suspended. Burrows did "instigate" the penalty but what I see is him jumping the gun on protecting himself after committing a penalty on a star player. Totally probably thought the fists were about to come from Russell, and for all we know Russell was saying as much to him after the hit. What really should be happening is the rule should be league assesses instigator for suspension, instead of this stupid having to rescind it completely crap. Penalty should stand, $10,000 should be paid up, but no suspension.

The Hamhuis one is a hit to the head, but a hit to the head is not an automatic suspension. There's a reason it can be just a two minute penalty, sometimes it really is just a combination of missing a hit and bennett being in an unlucky position. I hate head shots, but in a contact sport stuff like that is always going to happen and it shouldn't always be a suspension. However, I wouldn't have minded a fine.

The Bieksa thing is just a scrap in the corner at the end of the game. I bet if you asked Ferland he wouldn't think it should be a suspension, you could just tell the Flames were just trying not to get anymore game misconducts with multiple fights during a stoppage in play. Nothing came of it, move on.

Also, Burrows is a rat and I hate him. Go Flames Go.

If Bennett rolled around on the ground and went off the ice for a while like a good Canuck Hamhuis would have been suspended. But he wasn't hurt, he's not a puss, so no suspension required.
It's one thing to push and it's another thing entirely to intentionally try to injure a player. It shows a complete lack of respect and what the NHL doesn't need is star players going down or having their careers ended because some meat head can't control themselves. It should never come to a player having to be carried off in a stretcher for the NHL to dish out some punishment.

Without commenting on the merits of this... I assume that they concluded that the head contact was unintended and that he was going for a shoulder hit, but missed.

If the Canucks aren't going to be punished for those plays then I think it might be wise to call up McGrattan. We need to have the nuclear option to deter the scum from going after Johnny & Sam. Obviously the officials & the League aren't capable of keeping this series in control.

It won't help.

They don't even have an answer for Ferland, and they sure as hell have no one on their roster who would fight McGrattan.

and looks like nothing else

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Just landed in WPG. NHL rescinds instigator penalty for VAN's Alex Burrows, so he's good to go for G4. All quiet on supp discipline front.

^ Hartley is not allowed to put McGrattan on this ice without getting fined anyways.

McGratton is a liability at hockey. And what kind of deterrent is he really? Nobody on the Canucks will fight him. Burrows boards Gaudreau, two shifts later McGratton tries to grab Burrows and he runs away or turtles. How is that a deterrent?

These aren't tough guys going after them. We have plenty of guys more then capable of taking them on in the lineup.

I'm sure he'd find a partner, but making these kinds of lineup decisions just plays into the Canucks' hands. The team pretty well dominated them last night; why on Earth would you change a winning lineup after a game like that?

Put me down for surprise that there was nothing on Hamhuis. It was a clear shot to the head. You can't just say "I didn't mean to" as the onus is on the hitting player to ensure his hit is proper.

With Engelland, Bollig and Ferland, McGrattan isn't needed. I wouldn't be mad if Wolf got a game though.

How about all? It's time to go full Slapshot on these f***ers.

I can't believe there is nothing coming of this. If the NHL wants a gong-show, I say give em a gong-show.

That is my fear as well. I can live without any suspensions. Yes the Hamhuis one was a cheap headshot, but Bennett looked okay. My #1 fear now is that certain players on our team (Ferland... ) might see it as a green light to really take runs at some Canuck players since this appears to be a suspension-free series now. Certain player crosses the line and we end up taking bad penalties, which the Canucks take advantage off and win the next game.

The real challenge for the Flames next game is to keep disciplined, hit hard but clean, and play within the rules. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a free for all now. I'll be keeping a close eye on Ferland exactly for this reason. He already rides the line pretty close and it will be a real test next game to see if he in fact crosses it.

Introduce them to the brothers - Ferklund Hanson, Bollig Hanson and Engelland Hanson - and cousin Wolf Hanson is on the way soon!

It's clear that the NHL suspends the result of an action, not the action itself. If Bennett got a concussion, Hamhuis would have gotten 1-2 games. No injury = no suspension.

The fact that Burrows had his instigator lifted when he actually instigated a fight is a sick joke.
