And now Murray says: "I am disappointed for our fans" in regards to picking #2.
Man, he must HATE Eichel. i really don't think the talent gap is that substantial to whine about taking Eichel.

He'll mask a few of the issues, which means slight improvement next year, which means Lowe continuing to make the same decisions which drove that organization's reputation off the ice (and results on the ice) into the toliet, and Katz continue to let him.
Won't change the fact that they can't get UFA's or get decent players to waive NTC's. He doesn't play defense either.
Too bad that this talent will never see his full potential as a professional.

The only good thing about this? Is He won't be in the eastern conference and we only get to see him once a year.
Now we can watch his development stall and regress 3-4 times a year!

Worst possible scenario. This has been my nightmare all season and it has come true. Sickening.

My god, what a f'n joke. As some have already mentioned, I highly doubt the NHL actually wanted this. Clearly something needs to be done to fix the way they do the lottery. I feel so bad for McDavid.

It's odd that this kid is going to make $50 million + in an oilers uniform , yet I feel sorry for him.

It is not surprising he is saying this. He was on Buffalo radio a few weeks ago talking about how he dreamt of McDavid.

Tim Murray's whining is hilarious. He thinks he should have been gifted the past two 1st overall picks.

I just had this horrible dream that the Oilers won the draft again, and selected McDavid. Please...it was just a dream...it was not reality...HUMOR ME, FOR CHRIST SAKES!

It makes a nice story. Lemieux saved the Penquins, who were facing relocation. Then, just as he was about to retire, while the franchise was again facing potential relocation, they got another "generational talent" in Crosby, who got to billet with Mario. The Pens win a Cup. Pittsburgh got a new arena and became one of the select franchises, besides the big US markets to be featured regularly on NBC.
McDavid "replaces" Gretzky. Those other #1 overall picks have failed to pan out, and Taylor Hall especially was supposed to have been pretty damn f'ing good before being drafted.
Well, it's possible that the system is legitimate. Then again, no other draft positions changed, except at the top...

They just showed the footage of "the ping pong balls" and Edmonton's golden ticket going into the envelope. Bettman looked like he might be having a stroke.

McDavid's future is a big deal and from his families point of view he's going to a place where young promising careers die. Now he's probably too good to bust but one has to think they will be having discussions with their agent to what their options are here.

They just showed footage of the lottery balls being chosen and Bettman looked pretty dejected. What a gong show. They need to fix the lottery system.
