Yup. We will live in this post-apocalyptic world where jokes are the new currency - so scarce that one will be able to trade a solid "yo' mama" joke in exchange for food, energy and anything else. Jokes will be worth more than gold! Those with the most jokes will rise to enjoy incredible power. Those without jokes will scour the earth seeking even the simplistic "knock knock" joke.

Kevin Costner should really make a movie about this impending doom.

Yes - your notion is THIS silly.

I hope that provides you with some consolation, because given your attitudes, I guarantee there are plenty of people who think less of you for the inverse reason, whether they're telling you so or not.

For the record, I'm willing to tell you.

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be a couple of mourners at your funeral.

I think MMF had it right - this discussion was held years ago when the subject was whether or not it was OK to usual homosexual slurs.
So I doubt that years from now anyone will "miss" these types of jokes, apart from those, longing for the good 'ol days. Instead, most people will be embarrassed by what was considered acceptable, and even funny.

I really don't think it is that silly of a notion though.

I do not support the use of mysoginistic and racist jokes to incite hate or ridicule, but what does that make someone who laughs at guys like Bill Burr and Louis CK? How do they get away with it? Why is it right for them to tell these jokes, and use observational humour, but the second some Joe in the street does it, he's caught on camera, it's uploaded to youtube, and his life is ruined forever. People are becoming so hypersensitive to everything, there was actually a feminist conference that asked people to use Jazz Hands instead of clapping as to not trigger anxiety in speakers.... this is NOT an Onion article:

Hypersensitivity is rampant, and comedy is certainly going to be a target.

I personally do not believe anyone who calls the Sedins "sisters" actually believes they are female. And I don't think anyone is doing it to disparage females. And I actually don't even think they are doing it to insult the Sedins. I think the reason 99% of people do it, is to ruffle the feathers of Canucks fans and get under their skin. Regardless of how soft they play the NHL game, they would still kick the crap out of pretty much anyone on this board.

No one is saying that your life should be ruined forever by uploading you making a dumb sexist joke to youtube. We're saying you should stop doing that because it reflects poorly on you.

Louis CK and co. are performing in a particular setting and context. There's still a line there, as Michael Richards discovered, but it's a different setting. These are the nuances of human behaviour, and frankly, most people can intuitively determine the difference unless they're being intellectually dishonest or are on the autism spectrum (speaking as someone who is)

Just because it is on a stage, doesn't make it any more right, than if it is on an internet forum. You can't pick and choose.
First of all, putting Russell Peters next to two of the better comics today should be a sin. Peters is a hack. Second, the difference between what Louis CK and Bill Burr do, and what people are doing when they say things like "Sedin Sisters," is in the subtext. Burr's "What are you a fag?" bit is a perfect example. Does he use a word that's offensive to certain groups? Sure, but it's done so in a way that's self-deprecating and is meant as a jab at mainstream masculinity.

There's no depth to calling hockey players girls, there's no clever subtext or social commentary, and there's no creativity or originality put into it. It lacks virtually every redeeming quality of good humour. If someone honestly thinks that's clever or original smack, then I'd wager they don't have much going on upstairs.

Side tangent but as someone who has a close association to many people in that type of community, there are plenty of people even within the community (myself included) who roll their eyes at most of that stuff. The whole concept of trigger warnings has been completely #######ized by certain sections of the movement who don't understand the original concept and its relationship with PTSD.

The other thing is that a lot of these comics are becoming aware of the impacts of the language they use and are adjusting their bits as such. Louis CK even admitted to this a while back that he didn't really understand how or why the word "fag" bothered people so much until he had some gay friends explain it to him, so now he doesn't use the word anymore.

Neither of them use it anymore if I recall correctly. That famous Louie CK bit was from 2010, a lot has changed since then.

Oh good, this old gem of a terrible argument. Because we all know it's impossible for humans to be preoccupied or considerate of more than one cause.

And I 100% agree with that.

But people are making the intent more than it actually is. There is certain sub-texts to how insults are used. I think it is equally unfair to label any person that uses the term as some sort of Misogynistic a-hole. In most cases it is just stupid, and uncreative smack talk. In my Facebook feed, there is a woman that posted a Sedin Sisters meme.... what does that make her?

I get what you are saying, however I think the over reaction by the hypersensitive side is sometimes just as over the top. I think it is a combination of people needing to be more sensitive, and others to have thicker skin. I don't want to live in a world that is all lollipops, rainbows, smiles, and perfection myself.

And FYI, if you listen to Bill Burr's podcast, the dude does have some severe issues. Some of his funniest stuff, could be viewed as downright scary to some. His Chuck Berry/Yoko Ono rant is one example..... You cannot tell me the views he puts out in that rant are all an act.

One of my students told another kid that he "throws like a girl" the other day.

I stopped class dead and showed them this video.

The mind of a comedian is the scariest of all.

Every time one of you laugh or thank one jokey posts, I cry a little.

huh? I remember watching it and don't recall him ever using the word fag in it. The Netflix one, in black and white?

I wasn't saying it wasn't the same ol' thing, he managed to do his comedy without using a fag. He's good.
