I always thought the can opener was between the legs. Near the "can".
Anyway, putting the stick in is a penalty but I wouldn't exactly call it dirty. It's odd that Gio had that monster windup going, and it's way too bad it happened so soon at the end of the game, and behind the net on a relatively safe play.

Mark Giordano skated this am . Says if the #Flames can somehow advance. And if surgeons are positive a return to lineup may be possible
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills 26m26 minutes ago
#Flames Mark Giordano skated on his own today and although he's not close, he didn't rule out a return to the line-up this season.

Comments like this always worry me, I understand that he wants to be back because we're in the playoffs and the extended season changes the timelines somewhat, but its always a concern if he comes back too soon.
Risk of re-injury, he wouldnt be in game shape, he could be rusty, theres all kinds of concerns.

Can you imagine though if the Flames advance to Round 3 and Bouma comes back and then make it through to the SCF and Gio comes back - wowzers!

Even if he is rusty and out of game shape, would you rather Gio playing or Potter?

He also said the Flames staff wouldn't let him back on the ice unless he is 100%

God I wish so bad Gio was in the lineup. Heart and soul guy like him could be the turning point in the series. After all he's done for the organization over the years and the loyalty he's shown, it must be heart-wrenching for him to not be able to play in these playoffs.
If there is any sense of justice with the hockey gods, we will make it to the finals where he can finally play again.

Right, I get that, they always say that.
But you're talking about taking a guy that wont have played in months and dropping him into the playoffs.

Flames would (maybe?) be in the 3rd round at the point he could play. Half these guys are running on artificial limbs at that point anyway, he would fit right in.
I'd be willing to wager a lot of money any one of these guys would risk long term injuries for the chance to win a cup.

You're talking about the best player on the team and dropping him into the playoffs. No different from Patrick Kane returning for the Blackhawks.

Well today Hartley said that Bouma was day-to-day, so thats not much of a stretch.

Something tells me Gio is always in game shape.
You could wake him up at 4am after a wild birthday party to play a game, and he'd finish +3.

Hopefully this is motivation for our team to make it past the 1st round. I would give it my all to have my captain playing with us again.

He will have a little bit of time to get back practicing and in game shape, hence the skating today. They won't drop him in right away.
Even if there is a slimmer of possibility, which it now looks like there is, then looking at the situation I think they would put him out there. Can you imagine what the players in the room are feeling like right now, just hearing this? They would give it every opportunity I feel.

"Win the round for Gio" will be the mantra in the Flames dressing room.
