Of course, they could clinch with a regulation win against the Kings. They have not pulled Quick for the extra attacker yet and the Flames maintain possession. They don't want to risk anything in the last couple minutes so they decide to run the clock down and are staying in their own end, passing back and forth, back and forth, not advancing into the Kings' zone and not letting them take the puck, etc. Would there be something wrong with this in the sense we could get a penalty for it? I kinda doubt the Flames would do this cause it's kinda a dick move, but could we get something like delay of game?

I know we did this for 20 seconds or so back in that December Vancouver game because up until that point we didn't even get a single point in the series and we wanted to get at least one. Any other building we get the crap booed out of us, I'm sure the home fans wouldn't mind though.
The Kings would simply throw everything they got at us. Playing 'keep away' in our end would not be possible.

Hell if we were up 1 zip and played keep away all game and the kings were content to let us, no one would be disappointed that is for sure.

I have no idea why LA woudn't be challenging Calgary players behind the net in that situation. But I don't see why Calgary couldn't just stand behind the net forever.

Reminds me of the Philly / TB game a couple of years ago, where, tied early in the first period, Tampa Bay was sitting back waiting for Philly to come at them, and Philly was standing there, with the puck, doing nothing until Tampa bay would come at them.

I have a feeling that if the Flames have a 1 goal lead in the third of that game, it will be very similar to the 3rd period of the Dallas game, only 100x more stressful.

Thanks. The Kings would forecheck pretty hard of course but if we were able to just maintain possession we could basically run away forever. At that point though I guess you'd want to advance the puck anyway.

The reason I ask is because I was mainly wondering if there was ever any delay-of-game-like penalty created for that scenario if it were to go on for a large amount of minutes. I know in the NLL they have a shot clock where if you don't fire off a shot within 30 seconds of getting possession you lose it.

Pretty sure the Oilers got one way back in a playoff game when Huddy or Coffee just held the puck behind the net. They were in no danger of losing that game anyways though

No penalty exists for that, see the Philly/Tampa game a few posts back.

However, a ref can whistle a play dead if the puck isn't moving. So if 2 d-men just pass back n forth all game, go nuts as far as the refs are concerned.

If we have a single goal lead it will be do or die for LA. They will go nuts.

Ugh I shudder just thinking about how stressed I'm going to be on Thursday.

That is the best thread since The Two Degrees of Separation of Mike Sillinger!

By the way, Flames have 2 home games, and 3 games total, remaining

If they win the first 2 of the 3, they are in.

They have 21 home wins and if they win the final 2 (23 in total) they're in!

They have 22 road wins. If they win their final 3 games, they will have 23 home wins and 23 road wins.

Arizona has 23 road losses.

I am going to have 2 heroin beers tonight, and then I am going to have 3 more. And then I'll be out!

How incredible is it that 79 games into the season the Flames control their own destiny to the playoffs? As an athlete you can't ask for anything more than that

Well, here's to hoping ARZ don't bring it tonight in their hopes to nail down the 20% lottery chance at McJesus.

Starting Mike Smith doesn't help that situation.

And right now turn on your TV and change the channel to the Knowledge Network, or PBS, or anything that's not likely to flash the score while you're getting the game cued up later. Do it now!

I remember back before PVRs (so long ago, I know!), I was taping a game on the VCR. The game started at 7 or something, and I wasn't able to get home until 8:30, so I had to wait for the game to finish taping at 10 before I could start watching.

So what did I do to kill time? Flipped on TSN and started watching hockey highlights...
