LOL, there's no way that's true.

The team needs to go 5-3 or 4-2-2 over the final 8 games and they will be fine. Considering their record this month up to now, I'm pretty confident they'll be alright.
So long as they bench Raymond.

In no way has the loss of Byron been anywhere near the same impact as the loss of Gio

That blueline is really good with the emergence of Klingberg now to go with Daley (out tonight), Goligoski, Demers, etc.
And the forward group is STACKED.
I don't really get why they are where they are in the standings.

Except when they don't play Lehtonen their goal-tending has been horrendous. Something like 6 of a possible 30 points when Lehtonen doesn't start.....

Still not too worried.
Edm, Phoenix SHOULD be wins.
Minnesota has to come back down to earth at some point, they are playing out of their minds right now. Hopefully it starts tomorrow. 50/50 odds there
St Louis? That's a loss.
Nashville has been on a slide. 50/50 there as well.
LA and Winnipeg I can see us winning one game, losing the other.
50/50 odds we make it in, which is one HUGE step further than I thought they were going to be at this time last year.
I'm going to bet that our playoff chances come down to the final game of the season in Winnipeg, winner takes all for the final wildcard spot. How awesome is that going to be?? I just wish it was a home game!

Bouma with a tough night, his decision not to dump and change on the PK with the long change directly led to the 2-0 goal, and then him falling at the blue line led to the 3-2 goal.
Reffing was terrible overall in my opinion with missed and bad calls going both directions.
In the end 2-1-2 in the homestand keeps them in the race, need a strong RoadTrip now.

When I see the comment complaining about raymond after last night's game I have to think people are looking for reasons to criticize. He was not the reason for the loss, made no big mistakes, was forechecking and played pretty good defence. He set up a goal and created the energy leading to a next shift goal, plus he had a efw decent chances himself.
No player is immune to criticism, but IMO Raymond was not an issue last night. The team as a whole played a very inconsistent game. IMO Hudler wasn't very noticeable, nor was Jones (benched), and Jooris and Granlund were also just sorta there. Colborne had a very up and down night.
My own whipping boy for much of the season, Engelland, was phenomenal at both ends of the ice.

The fact that you disagree with the decision does not in any way suggest that Hartley went back on his word by making it

I also agree with the poster that suggested Byron was a key reason that their OT record has gone dark.
Hopefully Byron is ready to go soon because his speed and energy would be a godsend to this team right now.

If you are referencing my post, I said getting Byron back would be a godsend right now for a tired team. I did NOT say Byron was missed more than Giordano - that's just crazy talk.

Someone else said something to that effect IIRC.
As for Ferland v. Raymond, other than hitting, Raymond is still a better option for Hartley (and I like Ferland a lot). Ferland is still a bit of adventure defensively because he puts himself out of position for hits. He hasn't produced like I think he can, and like Raymond does.
I thought Stajan and Raymond were just fine last night, with Bollig and sometimes Jones. Bollig has really improved IMO. It has something to do with playing with Stajan, but also he has been a much better forechecker, has not been caught up ice as much, and exits the zone better.

Raymond made no mistakes? I think it's more like you really, really like him and always defend him, trying to say he was just fine every game. He isn't fine every game, far from it.
So many plays die on his stick. His skating all fast doing laps around the net don't help the team in anyway shape or form. His cross the blueline and button hook move doesn't ever produce anything.
He is beyond useless in his PP minutes, it's like he kills the clock on the PP. His forechecking is weak. Skate all fast at the player then bounce off of the boards and wave at the puck with one hand on his stick. Then gets caught up ice as the opposition moves the puck up ice. God forbid if he ever tried to use his body to separate the puck from the man.
He had a few decent chances? When was that? He didn't even have a shot on net last night, but he sure did skate around with the puck all fast doing absolutely nothing just like a Blake Comeau trademarked move with the Flames.
Mason Raymond is one of the weakest links on this team on a nightly basis.

I think the team's size, or lack thereof, is really starting to show down the stretch. I know they have never really been a puck possession team but it is becoming more evident lately that they are struggling with winning battles in their own end and consequently they are hemmed in their own zone for long stretches. To exacerbate things, they look fatigued, as others have already mentioned, which is slowing down their transition game and resulted in the numerous missed passes and icings last night. The bigger teams seem to excel during the stretch run and playoffs and I think that is part of the issue here.

It's the residual Maple Leafs effect. Even after just one year you are programmed to collapse late season.

I really thought MayRay was out there flying, he was quite agile on the puck and brought great speed. His linemates, however, looked lost. Colborne tried to spark something there by taking that stupid boarding penalty and I don't know how to feel about Granlund. He shows flashes of brilliance but he needs to be more assertive and confident.

Shore, Ferland, and Byron would be perfect
Byron-Colborne-Shore
Ferland-Stajan-Jooris
Sit Bollig, Raymond, and Granlund.
