Flames must already be right up there in terms of the number of College prospects in the organization.

Odds of Baun signing with CGY are low for sure but I do wonder how alluring it may be to some of these players to jump on the train early to see if you could be a key piece going forward with such a young dynamic team like the Flames.

Looking at the Flames positionally you could argue for guys like Baun (natural RW) that there is a glorious opportunity here if you're willing to put in the work.

Maybe you do not get the GP you might be hoping to get this year but if you follow Morrison's lead and buy in to the next couple of years... could be a big move for you as a player.

I wonder if any of these college free agents might be lured to Calgary after playing against gaudreau over the years and having an appreciation for how good he is. How good it would be to be on his team rather than against him. Probably just reaching here but if these guys are considering the players they would play with when choosing their team... I think a guy like Johnny is becoming a guy that everyone would want a chance to play with.

With Calgary not having many RW prospects might make Calgary a good destination for Baun. We are flush with centers and LWers, but have a significant lack of RW even at the NHL level.

That's our hope and ace in the hole. Kyle has a real shot at being a main RW fixture on our team for years to come.

I hope we see him sign.

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Post has learned that Rangers are not in hunt for Colgate free agent winger Kyle Baun, who is expected to join NHL roster when he signs.

To burn a year of his ELC he'd need to play all our remaining 9 games, right? Or can it just be 'burned' by mutual consent? Who would he supplant on the roster which is performing so well in the thick of a playoff race?

Granlund is the obvious candidate, but I thought he played really well the other night. I'd also like to see more of Shore and Ferland.

Also, how are we looking in terms of the 50 contract limit?

Nope, he only needs to play 1 NHL game to burn the first year of his ELC

45 deals on the books right now.

From a career jumpoff perspective, imo few teams can offer the options the Flames can- burned ELC year or not. If he is legitimate top6 material, he basically has to show up in shape and willing to play our system to have the inside track to line up alongside Monahan, Backlund, or (this coming season, or the following at the latest) Sam Frickin' Bennett; all three very respectable pivots that likely appeal to a kid who needs to get in a line with these type of players to make a name for himself. Finish any of those combinations off with the first Flames prospect to make the all star team in.. too damn long (don't wanna go there haha) and a big natural RW would have to be blind to question the mutual benefit. That said, I know nothing about this kid, but any time there's hype surrounding a sought after player who controls their own destiny, I always cross my fingers that we are in serious contention. Free asset and increase perceived value of the franchise is a double win

I was a bit worried that the Flames would make college FAs wary after we signed Corban Knight but then proceeded to trade him. If these rumours are true it doesn't seem like that has had any effect.

Don't be wary, as the Flames traded for Knight before Florida ever lost his rights and allowed Knight to become a UFA.

Which I'm sure that there will be a game he could get into like the Arizona game which won't hinge on his efforts, so it wouldn't be a big deal. I wouldn't be shocked if Morrison got recalled for that game as well if they had an agreement that he would play 1 game in the NHL before the end of the season.

He doesn't even have to play a game. His contract just has to start this year. That being said he is more likely to go to a team that will actually play him this season.

Morrison can't be called up. He doesn't have a NHL contract for this season.

We play the Oilers on April 4th. If our playoff situation isn't too precarious by then I'm sure he could take Bollig"a minutes and it wouldn't be a big deal.

Is there any real news on him yet? From how they were talking about him, I thought he would have signed with a team by now.

As mentioned in the thread, his decision will most likely come today.

From my count we have the following NCAA'ers in the organization:

NHLers (7) - Gaudreau, Colborne, Jones, Jooris, Bollig, Shore, Raymond
AHLers (7) - Arnold, Hanowski, Agostino, Van Brabant, Ramage, Potter, Morrison
AHL contract only (2) - Hathaway, Yevenko
in NCAA (6) - Jankowski, Gillies, Hickey, Gilmour, Harrison, DeBlouw

I may have missed some.

This is pretty exciting. I have to pinch myself sometimes, memories of the Flames trading away picks and prospects for 'win now' still haunt me.
