Default Traffic Tickets

Well to say the least, I've had better days. Started this morning with 2 traffic tickets totaling $500.00. Corner of 31st and Bow Trail. According to the officer I ran a red light and was driving at an "unreasonable rate of speed". What BS, the officer said he had to accelerate to 60km/h to catch up to me, little did he know that the speed limit is 60, and if he was going 60 then I was driving at a slower pace since he caught up to me.

Red light issue: I asked the officer if there is a red light camera on that corner and he acknowledged it, at which point I said that if I was guilty of running the red light, the camera should have my plate? When he replies that I was lucky that the camera didn't get me. Hmmmmmm.

Anyways, just venting, the light wasn't red, it was yellow, could I have stopped, absolutely, was I speeding nope, just frustrating, and will fight it.

Take pictures of the intersection, and make notes. Take the pictures yourself so you can testify to the time and date they were taken.

Take your notes of what the officer said, and make sure you date them. When the court case comes up, the officer will testify first and you will likely be asked if he may use his notes. Say something like "No objection, and I would appreciate the same consideration when it is my turn." When asked why you took the notes, say you wanted to make sure you had the facts correct when the court date comes up.

I thought that the quota's for speeding tickets was scrapped a few months ago.

Anybody know for sure?

I hate this term. Where did this come from anyway? Speed is a rate (distance travelled per unit of time), so "rate of speed" is actually acceleration. Its a pet peeve of mine when people say "rate of speed" when they mean speed. Just say speed, dammit!

Anyway, now that I got that off my chest, good luck in court.

Get pictures of where the incident occured, map it out and map the respective speed limit as well.

If you were going 60 in a 60 zone, you should be able to prove it easily. Not to mention it sounds like the officier didn't actually get an accurate calcution of your speed, which actually makes it much easier to fight.

If you are guilty, there is an easy loop-hole so you dont get knocked any demerits.

I think he might have you on the light. I believe if you can stop safely on a yellow you are required to do so. The speeding part sounds bogus. Or did you gun it to make it through before the light changed?

Not for long, they are taking away the plea bargain option.

Thats a yellow light ticket though, I believe its quite a bit cheaper than a red.

Just got a photo radar in the mail. It was on Glenmore Trail West right underneath the Crowchild Interchange. Just so you guys know, that zone is a construction zone, even if it is night time and there is no construction going on.
I was going 70 and got ticketed for going 20 over
