Just and added point here - if the Flames are looking at Hiller and Ramo as both exactly equally likely to win the game, then I prefer they always go with Ramo.
Hiller is signed for next season. Ramo is a UFA. It may prove to be valuable to see what Ramo has during crunch time and see if he is worth re-signing (and for how much). I would hate to see the Flames abandon one goalie who is entering his prime IF he does indeed end up great.
Let me re-emphasize here - you always play the goalie that gives you the best chance to win, but if they are equal, go with Ramo just to gauge if he is worth re-signing, and then explore a trade for Hiller in the off-season if need be. Back-to-backs excluded, of course.

Just add this to your cart with the retro jersey, it'll work out to be like 130ish for Today.

Hiller should just go to this awesome Mask pad combo for the rest of the year and if they get in the playoffs. I just hate that dull Black mask so boring.

Yeah it actually is a serious post.
In a team dynamic, I'm sure Hiller's teammates almost expected for him to get the start on Retro night, just based on his 'preparation' for the game, and are likely surprised to see Ramo being given the start. From a fan's standpoint, there seems to be no real good reason that Ramo was chosen over Hiller for this game.
I just think it could create some potential internal drama in the locker room. Surely the guys in the room would be pumped about Hiller's new gear, with a couple guys suggesting the Retro's should be the Flames standard home jersey. With a bit of hype surrounding Retro night, it just seems odd that Hartley went against the grain, and could create some internal drama/controversy where it isn't needed.
Ultimately, I understand that Bob makes his decision based on what he sees in practice and morning skate (based on performance). But the PR decision should have been to start Hiller, and he's given the team no reason to decide otherwise. That's all I'm saying.

Voracek seems to have given up on the season. Maybe the Flyers mail it in.

There should never be "PR decisions" about the lineup. Especially during a playoff race.

Obviously hypothetical, but do you think it would be awesome or lame if there were no boards advertisements this game? Make it authentically feel retro.
I think it would be bloody awesome if they could strike a deal with the sponsors to have nothing on the boards for 1 game a year.

This reminds me of the Luongo outdoor game thing where he thought he was entitled to play that night. Uh, the roster is always a coaches call and guess what the coach likes the other guy better for tonight. So suck it up, shiny pads and an ego don't entitle you to a game.

Agreed, and back to my original post " I don't understand the decision to put Ramo in net tonight", without context behind Bob's decision, as a fan, with both goalies playing to the same level in recent games, I'd rather see Hiller in tonight.

This is completely different from the Luongo thing. There was no good reason to start Lack in that game.

You honestly think any of the guys on the team are "pumped" about Hillers new gear and are now upset with Bob Hartley? Drama in the locker room?
Is this real life?

I heard Ramo is wearing leather pads and a Jason mask - real retro - like Smoky.

Hiller has been playing like ####. Let's in crap goals, and shaky more often than not, put Ramo in. Who cares about Hiller's gear, I want to see god damn playoffs. 5 years have been enough

It is definitely a touch odd that the Flames have been hyping his new pads and mask for this game and he's not playing in it, but at the same time, do you honestly think the players and coach give two ####s about it?
There is no distraction, period.
It would have been cool as a fan to see, but oh well. They both should have got retro gear just in case. End of story.

IMO Hiller's last couple games were better than Ramo's last couple. Ramo was great on the eastern roadie, but Hiller saved the Ottawa game, looked good in the back to back start, and last game made some great saves and could not be blamed on the 3 that got by. Ramo wasn't great against Colorado, and was very reboundy in the games just before, despite the wins.
Not sure how that's playing like ### or letting soft goals in.

Agree, I don't recall Hiller letting in weak ones vs STL and he definitely saved Ramo and the Flames bacon vs OTT.
I'm sure he has a better career winning % vs Philly. It may not seem like a reason to go with a particular goalie but for whatever reason that past history for goalies vs teams it has a tendency to be consistent.
