Default Calgary Flames the next Chicago Blackhawks?

Looking at this rebuild, I'm starting to see a lot of similarities between the two teams. Who knows Calgary might be even better in the next couple of years

Monahan - Toews (Both play great hockey and are captain serious)

Gaudreau - Kane (both have great skills)

Bennett - Shaw (play a similar style, but with Bennet's potential, he will be much better then Andrew Shaw)

Giordano & Brodie (Keith & Seabrook)

Ortio or Gillies - will be much better then Crawford in the future.

Ortio AND Gillies both better then Crawford? That's a bold prediction.

I like the enthusiasm but give it a bit more before time before we make these comparisons.

disclaimer: i am not a flames fan so i don't know your players as well as you guys. but that also means i have 0% chance of rose colored glasses.

i actually was just thinking the other day that you guys are starting to come together like the hawks did. you now have an established top pair D similar to the hawks when they started their rise. you have a couple of top 10 picks that look to be just as talented. you even have a veteran winger that puts up points.

so giordano/brodie could be your seabrook/kieth
your top 10 picks are bennett/monahan which would be your toews/kane, but certainly the monohan/gaudreau combo has already started producing like they are the two high picks
and hudler can he your sharp

when you look back at that cup team the first year those were the key pieces. goaltending was a huge unknown, and the depth players almost all had been in rockford the year prior. they did have nice D depth with campbell and byfuglien, but you guys have the single game blocked shots record holder to give you some depth too

anywho, i am sure you guys are trying to temper expectations, but i genuinely do see similarities and have no emotion vested in the team like you all do.

Ugh. I hope so, but take it easy.

My mind just flashed back to that thread on here in the late 2000's that asked if the Flames were going to be the "next Red Wings?"

Ouchie

As long as there are absolutely no follow up questions then yes, yes they are.

I threw up in mouth seeing a Bennett and Shaw comparison...

Remember no-goodnik fans saying...

Hall - Messier
RNH - Gretzky
Eberle - Kurri
Schultz - Coffey

Let's let them actually prove it before we start going all Oiler-fan on them

They'll be different, they're creating their own identity. Which I prefer.

How about we just worry about being the Flames and stop with the comparisons.

The Blackhawks weren't The Blackhawks until they came across Marian Hossa on the FA market ...And Marian Hossa isn't just your average guy. He's a big Selke-caliber forward with nearly as much of a career scoring resume as Iginla. In fact I can't really think of many wingers in the league of that all-around value. Paccioretty is probably the closest thing.

Now, in the good nature of optimism:

Quote:
who is our Hossa, Sharp, Brouwer, Bolland, Versteeg, Ladd, Campbell, Byfuglien, and Hjalmarsson?
Hossa - Shore
Sharp - Poirier
Brouwer - Hunter Smith
Bolland - Backlund
Versteeg - Jooris
Ladd - Wolf
Campbell - Russell
Byfuglien - Colborne
Hjalmarsson - Wotherspoon

Good lord no, Chicago since 2010 has been the closest thing to a dynasty in this era. Let's maybe wait until Bennett plays an NHL game before making any comparisons.
