Bob Hartley not on practice ice this am. A personal maintenance day for the coach. #Flames

 Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Good to see #Flames David Jones skating...didn't finish game vs. #Avalanche after crashing into boards. Had a goal and an assist in 14:33.

I really hope there are some pranks for the picture taking. This seems like the kind of team that would let lose and do things like that.

As much as I would like to see Shore and Poirier play, I think this needs to be the lineup for the rest of the way (with the possible exception of Bollig). The top 3 lines are getting good chemistry and Stajan is a steadying influence on the 4th.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I agree, though Shore and Poirier can (and should) be rotated in for the odd game. Essentially, we have 10 forwards fixed in the lineup (top 3 lines + Stajan as 4th centre), then rotate the two 4th line wingers.
When Byron is fit, he starts getting worked in there, then there are 5 players to rotate.

If anyone goes down, there are enough players who can shuttle through the lineup without needing an emergency recall. If 1 D goes down, Potter draws in, if 2, they sign Murray and plug him in.

I still think Ferland still needs AHL time. The reason why he is probably getting time over Poirier is that he not only has a little more NHL experience than Emile, but also because he's more suited for a 4th line role.

I expect Ferland and Poirier to be sent down when Byron is back.

Sending both down might not be a good idea - if injuries happen, they would then have to burn recalls. I think they are here the duration of the season

Hartley might see Ferland as a Bouma type player. Physical style with intangibles who can further develop his game on the 4th line. Ferland has also been more noticeable his last couple of games. He's got NHL speed and size, which is all you really need to be an effective 4th liner.

Man that wound me up more than it should have at the time. Johnson is dumb.

Such a tight game and the brutal reffing I guess had a lot of guys on edge, then Genius Johnson throws out that gem.

Having the ability to rotate Shore, and to a slightly lesser extent, Poirier gives you some good flexibility on the fourth line, and in the event of injuries. Against bigger/stronger teams, I like having Bollig and Ferland in there.

I agree that the top nine (plus Stajan as 4C) is probably as solidified as its been all season; maybe shuffle a guy or two to mix it up or if someone is struggling.

Good to see Jones back skating.

I actually really like Johnson's commentary 99.9% of the time.
He's usually very insightful and intelligent, more so than almost all other hockey commentators out there. His experience playing the game gives him a good perspective for sure.

People make mistakes. From his vantage point it seemed like it to him, and to you and me it did not. Oh well... My opinion of him hasn't changed. |

Hell no. He waited until he saw the replay and then said without any doubt in his voice that it was a dive. He's an idiot and should be called out for being so.
