Debatable whether it is good or bad, but why would you say "not possible"?

I've been to two games there and location aside, it actually is a really cool set up. Spent 50 bucks and went to a playoff game
Radulov played like crap

You mean a shared building? Yeah, that's a bad idea.
A shared facility with a separate arena and stadium but sharing all of the related support infrastructure is the way to go.

It's possible. Anything is possible. It could be built balancing on the top of the Calgary Tower. Quick, cheap, well done. Pick two of three.

Agreed...
Not "possible" was a little strong, but not sensible or feasible is more to the point, unless you had a ridiculous amount of retracting seats.
That retractable seat idea sounds like something that might work in a fieldhouse, though, to enable it to house football without there being a 400 metre track between the fans and the field like in Commonwealth.

I recall the Skydome was originally billed as having configuration for hockey and basketball, but I don't think either the Raptors nor Leafs have ever played there. There just wouldn't be enough good seats. Think of the Heritage Classic. For the Alumni game I had the closest seats possible, and I was still twice as far away as I am in my Green seats at the Dome.

Gotcha. I read "shared site" where I think you were saying "shared facility". Shared site = good, shared facility = bad.

And no one noticed. Or even turned the lights on for that matter.

Watched a Raptors game at Skydome. Damon Stoudamire (if memory serves) vs. The Admiral and the Spurs.

Raptors at Skydome...
The Lightning also played in the "Thunderdome" (now known as Tropicana Field) for three seasons. They routinely pulled in crowds well in excess of 20,000, which is why the Whatever the St Pete Times Forum is now called Arena was built with such a high capacity (which has subsequently been reduced considerably).
Neither setup was a viable long-term solution, which is why they were only temporary.

So if that is a reflection of attendance I would say a generous estimate would be at least 85% of the fans arrive by vehicle from what I see on a nightly basis.
|
There are about 3200 parking stalls on the Stampede grounds. Maybe another thousand or two in the surrounding area. That sounds like a lot but assuming every single one of those stalls was used by someone going to a Flames game (which is not true, at all) you'd have to have cars with four occupants apiece parking in all those stalls to get anywhere near 85% of the crowd.
Maybe half the crowd drives.

There's going to be a significant office component to this project too, by the way.

Did you also know that the Air Canada Centre was originally going to be a basketball-only arena for the Raptors, and it wasn't until the Leafs bought the Raptors, almost a year after the groundbreaking, that the designs were significantly overhauled and the budget increased to allow the building to also accommodate hockey?
