Is there video of the draft coverage when he was drafted?

They only go to the podium for the first 2 rounds (IIRC), so he probably got almost no discussion sadly.

I distinctly remember his phone interview with the FAN the day he was drafted. They asked him what he knew about the team/city and you could tell he knew very little, but he talked about how Flames mgmt expressed interest in him prior to the draft and that he appreciated it a lot and was happy to be drafted by them. I remember thinking, damn, some 5'6 guy, and he sounds like a punk kid, too.. it would be funny if he became a big player for us some day.

Sure enough..

Wow what a great video. It was really touching hearing about the conversation Johnny has with his mom. I feel like sometimes us fans forget that hockey players are human beings too

Its also the parts where he has to go away for school and to play hockey, he has to leave his home and his family and all at the same time he is looked at like a hail-mary longshot.

It makes his current success all the sweeter. And I hope he wins it all. Win the Calder, get into the playoffs and get more points next season.

Hes really earned it in spite of everything.

When people tell kids that if they work hard enough they can do anything they want, they're talking about this kid. Its a level of dedication that most people can only dream of.

That's a great video. Johnny is a great young man with a wonderful family and I am really happy to have such a good guy be a part of the Flames.

That video looks like it's a part of student video contest on NESN, so don't just watch it, click the "VOTE" button too.

It's very well done and a great story from his mother.

Meh hitting 60 pts would be icing and it is well within his reach. But Johnny being at 50 pts including 18 goals he has already shocked all of the NHL critics and most of the fans.
What a rookie season this kid is having.

Call me sentimental, but I love when our guys also have great attitudes. Johnny obviously is a great kid and wanted to check with his mum first about going to the NHL for one game last year. Such class, and so considerate. Just shows he is a caring person which I think is an underrated quality if you ask me.

That was part of the charm of Iggy. Always had time for fans, for media, etc. You always here stories of Iggy being nice to people randomly in public. As far as I know, he married his highschool sweetheart, correct? I would chalk that up to him not letting the money get to his head.
