Id say the show peaked from season 8-12. Those ones are amazing
I don't know, those definitely were the golden years, but only due to quantity, not quality IMO. If they were making 10 episodes a series of the current quality level I would still be pretty stoked.
I'd rank my top 10 episodes in no specific order (WAY too hard):
Train vs. GT-R race in Japan
Crossing the English Channel in Cars
The USA trip with the SLS, 458 and GT-3
The USA trip with the CTS-V, Corvette and Challanger
Polar Special
Bolivia Special
Vietnam Special
Botswana Special
Economy Race to Blackpool
24 Hour Race
So actually, you're probably right. I think 7 of those came from that time period but there were still some awesome episodes after. Spain Trip, Search for the Nile, Italian Supercar trip, Middle East special, they're all pretty good.
Anyone watch Sundays new episode? They have started broadcasting them around the world live. That also explains why they have all of the sudden started clamping down on torrents.
I liked it. I'm stoked for the American Top Gear vs. British Top Gear episode.

I thought it was quite good. I did have to torrent it though since "the world" apparently doesn't include Canada - BBC Canada doesn't show the new episodes until weeks later.
Wow another good episode last week. SO happy we have 8 more this season!!!
I heard that one of the Canadian segments is a rescue challange where they leave Richard on a mountain with a pilots watch and Jeremy and James lead the rescue.
That plus the TG US vs TG UK episode has me woodied!

Did you get a chance to watch this? At 29m 5s they discuss Canada:

If anyone uses a DNS service like Unblock-Us for their Netflix needs, it also works for BBC iPlayer. This is how I get my Top Gear fix. You can even watch it live, or on demand. Watching in your browser is easy. iPad is a bit trickier as you'll need to set up a UK iTunes account. Not impossible though.

I just want the Laferrari vs. Porsche 918 vs. MacLaren episode. That's two seasons worth of build up for the comparison drive. That and I want to see Stiggy do the laps in those monsters.

The BBC has suspended Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson “following a fracas” with a producer.
He was put on what was called his final warning last year following a racism row after claims that he used the N-word while reciting the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe during filming of the BBC2 programme.
A BBC spokeswoman said: “Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.
“No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time.”
This puts the BBC in an interesting predicament. A hugely popular programme and host, but I think that the BBC is growing tired of his antics. He's deliberately obtuse, outdated, provocative, which viewers enjoy, but the BBC must be sick of apologizing for him.

I'm sure if BBC punts Top Gear someone would pick it up in a second. Plus Jeremy owns a large part of the show. If he goes, it goes.
He sold his stake in 2012 for many millions, so the BBC owns the show, the brand, etc. So the show could technically go on without him, but it definitely wouldn't be a clean separation.
If he was canned, would the other hosts follow him at the end of their contracts? I suppose that anything is possible. But the BBC and Clarkson know that they're both better off together, but the BBC has the extra element of public accountability and now, seemingly, workplace violence.
