If guys like Schlemko, Engelland and Diaz can hang in there and eat up some of Gio's minutes they might be able to stay in the playoff race. Obviously having Ramo stand on his head won't hurt either.
When your best player goes down you really do need everyone to step up in his absence. Not sure this team will make the playoffs, but I think they'll be in there until the bitter end.

Not sure what to make of this team without Giordano. I thought they were quite lucky to beat the Flyers and the Bruins. They get dominated for huge parts of the game and yet find a way to win.

Some pretty wishful thinking to rely on this team keeping pace without Gio. Maybe for a few games but in the longer run I see them falling out of a playoff spot.

Wasn't this similar to the 03-04 season? what's more promising is we have young developing players who can step up and surprise us. It's going to be tough but it's how diamonds are made

A snippet from the Pucks Central (ESPN Pierre Lebrun article) regarding the Flames and Gio's injury:
... I had a chance to speak with Flames head coach Bob Hartley yesterday afternoon before the game. I asked him what he told his players after they lost Norris Trophy candidate and team MVP Mark Giordano for the season.
Hartley said he addressed the players after Monday's trade deadline because the timing was right, telling them this is their group now, no more help is on the way, that there was no way to replace Giordano. He also talked to his players about owing Giordano all they have and trying not let the season slip away due to his injury, telling them to get inspired by everything the captain stands for in terms of work ethic and character and use it as a group.
Hartley said he also reminded his players what people were saying about their team back in September, that Calgary would be in the Connor McDavid draft lottery. He told his players that now that Giordano was out everyone has written them off again. Well, the motivation speech has certainly worked so far with road wins in Philadelphia and Boston. Hard not to be cheering for the Flames right now to hang in there in the playoff race.

To be fair with Gio in the lineup, the flames have been outplayed most games except for 3rd period.
Going to need the same type of goaltending we've gotten in the last 5 games for rest of season. Hartely will also have to use bottom pairing dmen more. Can't see top 3 playing the minutes they are getting for remainder of season and not show fatigue .

I think in order to win down the stretch they need one of the non-big 3 dmen to step up. Engelland has so far meaning that we are top 4 heavy but it is doable. Ideally Engelland would continue his streak and Smid or Wootherspoon would come in to stabilize the 3rd pairing with Diaz/Schlemko. I think the third pairing worked best with one PMD and one defensive presence.
Remaining schedule has the following very winnable games: Sens, Leafs, Avsx2, Stars, Oilers, Yotes, BJs. Let's say we drop one of those games. If so, to reach 96 points then we only need to get 8 points off the remaining schedule that still has some tough games but also some very winnable, especially if teams fall off pace.
