Listening to the Fan this morning, I swear I heard that he has his own show on now starting at 9:00 AM. I take it this means he's staying for a bit.

I heard Peter Klein do a solo show after the Trade Deadline, and I thought he was really solid (better than Pinder actually). I wouldn't mind seeing him get a bigger role.

Remember, just because someone is only on air for a few hours at a time doesn't mean they have the rest of the day off. A lot of preparation and off-air work goes into radio.

Which usually gets sluffed to the interns and show producers. People good at radio don't need a lot of prep. They're good at filling up time on the fly.

I tried looking it up, but couldn't find it... exactly how long does Sportsnet have the rights to broadcast Blue Jays games in Calgary? With how long the season is in baseball, I could see this as a viable alternative core block for a TSN station, until the rights for the Flames games come up.

I don't mind any of the on air talent, except for the import Rome and whomever that unlistenable voice is with CBS at night, but Rogers as a whole is one seriously irritating organization.

Agree. I'm guessing Rogers sees Pinder as an up and comer. Perhaps he couldn't move to Toronto, so Rogers is investing this 1 hour a day in him as development.

That frees Boomer up for other stuff. He seems to be doing more voice work these days as well..... commercials for Big Chief, Auto Value, Jamie Macoun Real Estate, etc... For all anyone knows, maybe Rogers sees Boomer as a future program director and he's doing more work on the business side. Between second helpings of breakfast and naps.

Holy crap that is wrong. Good prep is required for good radio.
The best in the business are the best because they put in the work.
Yes being able to react on the fly is important, but it NEVER allows one not to do prep work.
One of Peter Maher's greatest attributes was his preparation and commitment to it.

might be mistaken but I thought I heard Boomer and Warrner a few weeks ago joking about Boomer approving Pinders vacation requests now that he was assistant program director

We obviously have different interactions with radio personalities. The ones I know within the city and in Vancouver are similar in that approach.

I'm not saying they don't prep, but you're making it sound like they work 8 hours a day. The ones I know sure don't, and they're running 3 hour shows.

3 1/2 hours a day now...he starts at 5:30. Thats still a boatload of time to sit and talk into a microphone.

Pinder joins in at 6...Rhett at 6:40.

Pinder does 9-10 solo now. Im not his biggest fan but i certainly hear the potential greatness in him. He is gonna be a gooder if he chooses to stick with it.

Most people that work in radio work MORE than 8 hours a day.
Nothing drives me more batty than people that think it is an easy gig with "only 3 hours of work".

I didn't mean they're only working 3 hours. I just meant that the amount of content they go through is a fair bit as they're hosting 3 hour shows. And furthermore, I've never said it's easy work. Each to their own. I still stand behind my statement. I tried to PM you the names I know if maybe they're bucking the trend but you don't accept PM's.

One time as a kid Peter Maher brought me up to the broadcast booth while he broadcast a game. Based on my totally anecdotal observation, he put in a few hours definitely before the game, then had his routine before the game, then did the game, then some more time after the game. By the time it was all said and done, I'd say definitely he was working at least 8 hours.

Boomer and the crew just seem like they are always away, or one of the crew is always away, it's weird. Rhett Warrener takes the entire summer off as well which sucks, but I don't necessarily blame him.
