Seeing the prices... I would be tempted to ship out Wideman. I know. Horrible timing, gio out, etc etc. But I think Russell and brodie can hold down the top pairing Engelland and diaz get moved up to second pairing and we throw schlemko and Wotherspoon out on the 3rd pairing.
Russ / Brodie
Engelland / Diaz
Wotherspoon / Schlemko

I think its worth it to finish the season with these players. If wideman fetches anything close to what Coburn got its a HUGE boost to this rebuild.
The problem is how the guys in the locker room may react. It shows them we are more interested in continuing to stock the cupboards then we are in making the playoffs as an 8th seed and likely going out early anyway.
I dont think wideman has much of a future on this team. He is playing perhaps the best hockey in his career. Lets move him - with some salary retained and pick up a 1st rounder plus a prospect or other pick. Or move him for a lesser D-man and a pick. Either way I think it would be a great move.
If Ortio was healthy - I would also be interested in shopping around Hiller / Ramo and seeing which of them fetches a better value deal.
Really hope we dont pick up anyone at the current prices. Please please let us be sellers or stand pat. I think Gio will be back within a month. So we shouldnt panic buy some 2nd liner to help fill Gios minutes for a month or so.

I know. I just don't want to believe it lol. I said we should have targeted gudas and some said he was way to valuable and the kind of guy Tampa would never trade. I would have taken the coburn return for wideman at this point and conolley for Glencross.

That would be a dream. 1st, 3rd connolley and gudas for Wideman and glencross plus 2nd. I doubt that would have done it but its similar to what they ended up getting in value. I just think they had a specific interest in the players they ended up overpaying for as is usually the case in strange deals like this.

Then they're packaging him with a draft pick and taking back a lower dollar value boat anchor or an LTIR contract similar to Horton's, because no one is giving up anything of value for Phaneuf at $7M until he's 35.
