Vinny and Stajan have the same term remaining on their deals.

Stajan is cheaper, and in many ways, more suited to a 4th line role. He does well keeping his head above water with mediocre line mates.

			Bad contract aside, i think from a hockey standpoint it wouldn't hurt to have a player like Vinny in the lineup. Obviously the price and return in aquiring him is huge, but he is still a big body (which we need), he can still skate (despite getting slower with age) and has lots of valuable experience for our young guys to draw upon. I think (in my humble opinion) if they give us some good assets to take on his contract (good draft picks or young players), then why not?

Due to Flyer's cap issues the only way a deal is likely going to work is if picks go their way....I'm a little iffy depending on what Flyers would be wanting in regards to that....

			With the Yandle deal just happening I imagine the asking price for Coburn will be high...maybe the Lecavalier contract would offset things a bit..but I bet Flyers will want 1st or pair of picks.

I would say that their cap issues dictate that the price would be low.

Are you reading any of the posts?

No one is exclaiming that Vinny is going to be a huge asset we would love to have, the only reason he's come up is that Philly would need us to eat a contract. Read posts before you polish that tower.

and we'll be sure to acquire Josh Gorges as well.

Coborn to Jooris to Colborne to Gorges to Jooris back to Colborne... er I mean Coburn. back to Gorges over to Jooris

And imagine if we also got that imitation Gaudreau out of San Jose as well?

			Not that I'm WANTING Wideman off the team, but the Yandle return certainly seems interesting.
 Getting Coborn makes it much more fathomable to be a playoff team without Wideman. Maybe pieces in play here (pure speculation) that a deal taking Vinnys contract in exchange for Coburn is hinging on the return we can get for a guy like Wideman and Russell?

 Again, not advocating that we should shop 'em to get them off the team (a la Glencross) but a 1st and a prospect has got to be impossible to pass up if Coborn can be had.

			Just looking at Coburn's stats (as I haven't paid attention to his play in a while):- Third on the team in ES ice time per game;
 - Leading the team in SH ice time per game by a good margin;
 - -1 +/- is respectable for a team like Philly that has struggled this year;
 - Only 56 hits;
 - his 5v5 Close CF% is 51.9

 I've been advocating that the Flames find a big defensive defenseman who can solidify the second pairing with Russell, and, stats wise, he seems to be a decent fit.

			Perfect deadline day acquisition IMO, as it addresses a need today but also can fit into the long term plans.
 Hope we can find a way to get it done.

			Treliving talked today about doing something to help the team and reward them for their season to date. Not sure this is the deal but certainly could be

Absolutely! It helps us while Gio is down, and dramatically improves our team when he's back! Being able to distribute our bottom pair minutes more across the board will be a huge boost...

Hypothetically, how would you guys like to see it play out if we did land him?

Gio - Brodie
Russell - Coburn
Wideman - Engelland

			I don't understand the graphs but if more longer horizontal bars are good, then yeah, Coburn is a massive upgrade.

			How awkward/confusing would it be for the players involved in a Calgary- Philly trade? Get traded and play against your friends the very next day. I say we do it then make a "behind doors deal" for who ever we trade to slip a couple in his own net.

 Edit: Serious note though, if we could snag Wayne Simmonds in all of this, then I would offer my first born child to the hockey gods.
