I don't mind the pickup, but he is not an upgrade on Smid/Engellend or Diaz imo.

He is the Arizona version of Adam Pardy.

To clarify things, the whole David who? post was meant with a bit of sarcasm because Tim Erixon (Tom Erixon's brother I believe) is available and I think (and so do a lot of others on here) that he would be a good pick up with not much to lose... instead we grab David Schlemko.
Erixon was claimed by Toronto, so he was never an option for us

No. I think Flames just want a better option than Potter. Flames will now send back Wotherspoon then when Giordano is ready to go back Potter gets sent down.

If Toronto was the first to claim him and he was claimed immediately after being put on waivers.... its my mistake.

Not sure about that. I think he is better than Pardy, though his lack of physicality may limit him somewhat.

He can skate though and is solid in his end positionally...but can be moved by bigger bodies.

Really liked Schlemko from the limited viewings I had of his time as a Coyote. Plus just a great hockey name!

What are the rules about having claimed him off of waivers? Can he still be waived again and sent down if he sucks or Smid/Gio get healthy?

Schlemko who.
Man the Flames sure do not have faith in Wotherspoon do they. 3 times this year he has had a call up but no ice time.
I but when his contract is up he asked be released as a RFA if his jump to the big club does not happen. Must be frustrating for the guy.

Okay, let's not get carried away here. Better stop this train of thought before it develops into "Wotherspoon has attitude issues"

How do you get that from what i said.
Never said Wotherspoon has an attitude. If anything the kid has shown class and maturity.

Here's a thought...

Treliving is familiar with Schlemko so its just as likely that this claim was made for what BT knows about him.

But

Wondering if it was much a preventative move as anything else. Willie Desjardins was Schlemko's coach in Medicine Hat, and knowing that Vancouver needs Defensemen as much as any team in the league, did BT make sure that Schlemko didnt get to them in hopes they then have to trade assets to address their needs?

Not quite tinfoil hat time, but something to ponder.

Bottomline Schlemko is a 27yr old NHL fringe D man that Treliving likely has the inside book on.
Picked up on waivers and can be put on waivers sent down if Hartley sees him as not a fit on the big club.
We do know not all players put on waivers are busts. I will trust Treliving's insite on the 27 year old.

claiming a guy for the sole reason that a certain other team can't do it? Actually that IS tinfoil hat time if you ask me

He gets called up a few times and gets to practice with the big club while earning an NHL salary. He knows he's right on the cusp and he's only a second year pro, that's how the NHL works.

Suggesting that he will ask to be released by the team if he doesn't get a chance to play as early as his his ELC expiring is a dramatic over reaction.

Claimed for the sake of adding to defensive depth, with the injury to Gio it wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if Hartley were to dress 7 D to take the pressure off of the back-end.

Anyways, if you're disappointed imagine how Wotherspoon must be feeling. He's GOT to be saying.... WTF???
Maybe we can trade him for Drouin, that might help you figure out who is?
